I am currently in the process of finding myself a new gym. I went in yesterday afternoon at around 1730h. I asked the young lady at the counter if I could have a single work out to see if the equipment and atmosphere was what I was looking for. She responded by saying we don't do that. She than informed me that it was going to cost me $37 for a day pass. It was after 5pm, I only wanted to test out the gym facilities as that is what I am interested in. I asked if she was willing to lose a potential member by not allowing me in for the sake of one session and her response was yes, we don't do free passes. I thanked her for her time and left. I was never rude, to her credit neither was she but at no stage did she ask me who I was or to maybe get the manager and discuss if they could waiver the fee or even offer to show me around. I am sorry but I am not paying $37 for a single session. I went straight to ANU where they offered a 7 day pass without hesitation. I guess Next Gen Canberra doesn't need the money.
Hands down the worst gym I’ve ever been to, inexperienced and dishonest staff everywhere just to get a sale out of you as they are paid off commission. Been trying to cancel my membership for 5 weeks, they broke contract and would not honour that they did and let me out of my contract. I had to pay $500 to get out of my membership, the most greedy and unethical business I’ve ever dealt with. Do not sign up to this place, will be the biggest regret you ever have. Lied to me about certain things when I signed up just to get me to join; then once I was in there found out all of the lies for myself. Management that I have dealt with also through email have been useless in wanting to help the situation, just ask for more and more money. DODGY TERRIBLE BUSINESS, don’t know how you haven’t been sued for your terrible ways of doing business.
They are not willing to email any price information and only want to talk on the phone, which isn’t always an option for everyone. When I asked for an email they were quite rude and dismissive on the phone. I’m guessing they are that expensive that they want the opportunity to talk you into joining first, because seeing a figure will scare you off. She said she couldn’t email prices as there’s too many, yet she said it’ll only take a second over the phone! A bit contradictory don’t you think? Why can’t they be transparent with their prices, gives off dodgy vibes. And, judging from so many other reviews saying the same thing, it shows this place should be avoided
Irresponsible lack of transparency. Excessive pricing. No options to customise membership. Huge area with vast resources which are generally unavailable to the real community. Only offer generic robotic responses to reviews ‘…we offer a platinum service which nobody can afford..’ It is likely most of the community are expecting this business to go under because they are not going about it the right way. Hopefully when it does, the vast resources and prime location will be made accessible again and returned to the People.
Its a trap don’t join As someone who used to work here I wouldn’t ever recommend this place to anyone. They are the greediest company I have ever worked for they don’t care about their members just how much money that can extort from people trying to join up. I came to work here because I wanted to help people but only last a couple months as I saw how greedy and toxic this environment was. You are better off going to any other gym in Canberra.
Expensive unless you use all facilities every day. Cleanliness varies more attention to shower hygiene would be good. Pool can be crowded most days and the sauna and spa are not always working. More supervision of pool would be wise.
The person called me regarding membership inquiry was extremely rude also not telling their price, pushing me to go have a tour first. If this the customer service standard for this place. No thank you!
This gym is suuuuuper dodgy. For example, it is extremely vague in the contract about how much you'll be charged if you terminate your contract early. When we queried this, the sales person said that it's up to the discretion of management depending on your reason. We weren't happy signing a contract on that basis, so we asked for more clarity and the sales person said it was really complex and she'd have to ask her manager. Finally the manager came over and drew us a diagram of how it 'might' work if we wanted to cancel early. But she wouldn't let us take that piece of paper with us, or add those details to the contract. We decided to just sign up for 3 months because of this, feeling confident we wouldn't need to cancel within 3 months. However, we did have to cancel - and lo and behold 'the discretion' no longer existed, they would not let us speak to the manager or anyone, or return our emails. Aside from a lovely one about 'sending debt collectors' if we refuse to pay. They just continued to direct debit. Just as other reviews have said. This place is the literal worst. Once you tell anyone this side of Canberra about Nextgen, everyone has a story!
Pricing is not transparent on website but minimum weekly cost was quoted as $43 a week, and you need to sign up for at least 3 months and pay a sign up fee too. Not that you'd know - very hard to get this information straight from them, it took a friend of mine over half an hour just to get them to be upfront. Why, oh why, can't a place like this just be willing to be open about their prices? I used to be a member of Club Lime which cost less than half as much maybe $15 a week and had equivalent amenities. Also no phone reception in the building - possibly to stop you doing price comparison with better gyms?
I really value Next Gen gym for offering me the kinds of activities that I need to keep fit and healthy. There is plenty of choice for classes, or I can go in my own time to use the equipment or pool. Highly recommended.
