Naïm (Originally Shouk Cafe) is a modern Middle Eastern influenced cafe in Paddington, Brisbane.

After almost 3 years in Paddington we've recently re-branded in anticipation of our second venue opening in South Brisbane but are still the same team serving up delicious, modern cafe dishes inspired by the markets and dining tables of the Middle East.

Tucked into a charming renovated Queenslander in Paddington, Naim delivers a fresh and thoughtful take on Middle Eastern cuisine, paired with warm, attentive service. The venue itself has a welcoming, homely feel, with the dining room set towards the back, cosy and comfortable, though it does get lively as the evening progresses. What began as a quiet arrival quickly turned into a bustling space, and while the noise lifted, it never quite overwhelming, you can still carry a conversation.nThe menu spans brunch, lunch and dinner, with a notably extensive plant-based offering and a willingness to cater to most dietary requirements. It’s a flexible, inclusive approach that suits the relaxed vibe.nTo start, a house-made iced tea of hibiscus and rosemary was a refreshing choice on a warm evening, light, fragrant and not overly sweet. A perfect opener.nIt’s hard to go past hummus, and Naim’s version does not disappoint. Silky smooth with a well-balanced hit of lemon and seasoning, it’s everything you’d hope for in this classic dish. Topped with lamb sausage though a carrot falafel option is also available, it adds a savoury richness that works beautifully with the creamy base. Served alongside toasted flatbread, it’s a generous and satisfying starter, equally suited to a casual snack over wine or light dinner.nFor mains, the Moroccan snapper was a standout. Baked in a fragrant tomato and curry leaf sauce, and accompanied by roasted cauliflower and pearl cous cous, it was a deeply moreish dish. The fish was cooked with well, tender and flaky, while the sauce carried enough depth and spice to enhance without overpowering the delicate flavour of the snapper. A well-balanced, hearty plate that felt both comforting and refined.nDessert, unfortunately, didn’t quite hit the same mark. The spiced crème brûlée had appealing flavours, ginger and cacao adding a nice twist, and the brûléed top providing that satisfying crack, but the custard itself lacked the expected silky texture, instead oddly gummy. That said, the response from staff was immediate and professional, with the dish promptly removed from the bill without hesitation.nService throughout the evening was friendly and efficient, striking a nice balance between attentiveness and ease.nWith a menu refresh on the horizon, there’s every reason to return and see what’s next. Naim is an easy choice for a weeknight dinner, approachable, flavour driven food at prices that won’t sting, and a solid local option whether you’re planning a casual meal or just in the area.
A favourite noshery we just can’t stop coming back to!!!nnMy son and I had brunch here today, on a weekday and the food was fresh and tasty. Naim has a new menu. Some of our old favourites are sadly gone the lasagna… but there’s some tasty new items we’re looking forward to trying.nnThe place was lively with happy people and a great vibe. I had the avocado toast which was huge and yummy. We’ve also had the Lamb Kawarma Lasagne, which was divine, and didn’t leave us feeling heavy. Also the Brekkie Pita Board, which was an amazing spread of tasty items! We also love the Hibiscus and Rosemary Iced Tea, the Iced Chocolate, and the coffee is great too! I love that they have both plant based and meat based menus. The back room is filled with sunlight and surrounded by windows, inviting the outside in. A lovely atmosphere. Service was great, and the food being delivered to all tables was very generous in size and looked vibrant, fresh and healthy. Value for money was excellent. One of the owners, BJ, always remembers our names now, and really looks after us, which we very much appreciate. I’ve been here too many times to count now for brunch, lunch and dinner… and it’s always been exceptional, and has become a real favourite for both my son and I. We love week days best as the chef and staff are our faves on those days. We are slowly working our way through all items on the menu and everything is delicious! I’d highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed.
Overall I think it is a restaurant worth trying and we might try the brunch menu later, but what we had for dinner was underwhelming, we expected a nice fusing of middle eastern and western food, from the dinner menu we ordered the shawarma beef steak, the steak was cooked nicely BUT it was just a steak with mushrooms and potatoes, without any exciting shawarma or middle eastern tastes or twists! We also had kofta, it was really really dry and very much in need of a sauce!! Perhaps ours didn’t have enough sauce and for others it is different!
Nice little suburban Turkish/ Middle Eastern style restaurant. Located just off Latrobe Terrace, indoor dining rooms. Good service, all the food looked and tasted great. We had a large table so opted for shared platters which worked well. Parking is definitely an issue in Paddington, especially if there is an event on at Lang Park. Bus stop nearby on the Terrace.
