Simply stunning building and platform, beautiful timber lined interior. Clean and well maintained throughout with warm and inviting dinning area.
I marvel at the harmonious design and the quality workmanship of the building that is still used as a train station. They are very helpful at the information centre.
Great customer service very polite and friendly nice Cafe with really good food and coffee on the station.
The building was typical 19th century but it's practicality was overwhelming, great to see a Sprinter come through and passengers get off, it was cold 11 C, but station buildings were warm and cozy.
So the story goes like this: Myths surround Maryborough Railway Station, built as part of the vision of a rail-connected Victoria in the pre-motor era. Locals still say that the station was a mistake, but actually its grandeur reflects the position Maryborough WAS to hold as a junction in Victorian rail routes. The 1890-1 building is Queen Anne style red brick. Beautiful tiled floors, lead light windows, high timber ceilings and a super wide platform is a must see when you visit. There is a lovely cafe which extends onto the platform and a cute information centre.
Pretty awesome train station, good cafe at the end of the platform. No trains run through which is a pretty funny fact I thought
Beautiful gold rush era railway station, when Maryborough was the hub of services to and from Melbourne and various branch lines starting or ending from here. Alas apart from a couple of woefully under utilised by locals and infrequent train services to Melbourne, the station is sadly under utilised by the State Government. It could be the centre piece of a government centre drawing people in and ensuring its preservation but like most things in this country, being imaginative is not a great attribute.
I had some free time recently so I drove down to the station just to get some photos and I was honestly amazed at how nice the station is. The services are really infrequent operating 2 train services a day to Ballarat at 7:08AM and 2:44PM. There is also a coach service to Ballarat leaving at 8:24AM.
Always stop by here and take a long look at the long platform, maybe one day there will be a passenger train at a reasonable hour! Nevertheless, it is a magnificent and inspiring station, worthy of Mark Twain's comment.
The station is beautiful. We didn't go to the cafe but it looked lovely and we definitely would have had a coffee if we had not just had one.
