Been here a few times now. The dishes vary between excellent and middling, but nothing is actually bad. If they whittled their menu down a bit and removed what they aren't good at, I would rate them higher.nnHere are three dishes we tried recently. The silky egg yin-yong is probably one of the best in Melbourne. Everything was spot on - the wok hei, the light crispiness of the bee hoon, and the egginess of the sauce. You can see the egg is perfectly silky and not overcooked.nnThe Lobak is a bit unusual, in that it is thinner than most other places and it's actually juicy with a crispy skin meaning it's freshly fried. I have never had a juicy lobak before, everywhere else it's dry. The flavour was excellent with an obvious hit of 5 spice powder. It's unusual to serve lobak with Hoisin sauce, the usual accompaniment is sweet chilli. It works, but I would still prefer sweet chilli sauce.nnThe pan mee was not great. It passes as a pan mee, but the soup was bland. They should remove this from the menu or consider rethinking their recipe.nnService is friendly and the restaurant is always packed. Make a reservation.
Went to dinner at Laksa Village, Malaysian Restaurant in Donvale, Melbourne. Smallish restaurant maybe with 10 tables, 2 of which are large tables 10 seats. Been there several times now and each time we have not been disappointed.nWe ordered :nThe Sambal PetainYamBasket w/King PrawnsnBarramundi with NyonyaSambalnAnd steamed rice.nFollowed by desert of Ice Kacang yummnPlace was packed and noisy, but the food was just so so Delicious.nThe food did not take very long to arrive as well.nYes the dishes we had would/might be to the taste of a Malaysian, but it was so so good and authentic.nThe IceKacang was great it being a hot day. IceKacang is a Malaysian cold desert. It has shaved ice, sweet red beans, sweet corn, black grass jellys topped with rose syrup.nnAnd service was quick.nThanks to Sylvia and Anne for a lovely dinnernHighly recommend.
Highly recommend Laksa Village CNY menu, one of the best that we have tasted, the Lo Yu Shang was generous and tasty with lots of salmon pieces and delicious salad with sauces well made and not too sweet, the crab meat soup was delicious and very tasty and generous, the lobster ginger noodles was so fresh and delicious and quite a young lobster with lots of meat and the shell was so soft that our teeth were able to sink into its shell to get at the generous wholesome and tasty meat and not overcooked, the glutinous rice in lotus leaf was one of the best we have tasted, full of flavour and ingredients , the Murray Cod fish was so fresh and big, it has to be the highlight of the CNY menu. The Yam basket with scallops was wonderful with scallops so tender and yam so smooth that it melts in your mouth. The Pork Hork dish with fish maw , Abalone and mushroom have to be the second highlight of the menu, it looked and tasted heavenly. Service with a smile from Ann, Sylvia and staff are the best, ever so hardworking, and always ready to meet your expectations under pressure without complain. Highly recommend Laksa Village CNY menu for one last Lo Hei to end CNY of the Fire Horse before the CNY celebrations end, you will not regret.
Teochew mixed platter very excellent highlight also is green beans. Looking forward to dessert. Not too noisy and chill atmosphere. Also playing retro Hong Kong music ‘Under The Lion Mountain’
The service here was excellent! The staff were so friendly and attentive. Even though I had some trouble deciding, they patiently helped me without showing any frustration. I really loved the experience!. And the one they called ‘cucumber udang’ was so yum u have to try
