I am more inclined to give the restaurant a 3.5 but thought I’d be generous considering I took advantage of the Dimmi offer. The food was great, most dishes were done well. We ordered the eye fillet and pork as our main dishes. The beef tartare was our favourite entree but the salmon gravlax was disappointing. The blini was fairly dry. While the owner or whom I presume was the owner did an amazing job of serving guests and speaking through the menu, his offsider waiter was a bit too relaxed, did not seem to know what he was doing or check on us to see how our meal was going while the other person was madly busy. For the price, the meals could be a bit more imaginative. They were still delicious, but a bit too simple for me and serving sizes were typical of the french style. In summary, La Pesa has potential, I’d like to see them try new things to attract more business.
Cozy little French place with great service and some excellent dishes. We took advantage of the Dimmi offer of 50% off food and I'm happy to report I'd go back in a heartbeat. The beef tartar, souffle are must try entrees and the fish of the day and Chateaubriand are great mains and finally if you've got room the creme brulee and the cheese board are great closers. If you can get the Dimmi deal great if not then still check the place out it's well worth it
Tucked away, with small openings in the corner. It's a very cosy feeling. The entrees came in time; the thinly sliced pork belly and the melon cubes made an interesting combination. The mains took a long time to come out. The mains also didn't all come at the same time. The mushroom tagliatelle was very nice, although I didn't really like the raw mushrooms on the top. The risotto was not cooked fully, the center part of the grains was still crunchy. Another texture that I didn't like was the starchy or powdery texture.
Classico Moderno is a small, authentic Italian restaurant with friendly service and a chef passionate for authentic Italian food. The Fichi e Gorgonzola was an amazing entree! The combination of fresh fig, creamy Gorgonzola and salty-tart balsamic glaze all worked perfectly together on some super fresh bread. One of their main dishes is Passatelli alle vongole. Classico Moderno make their passatelli in-house and to order. The pasta itself is very unique in texture and flavour, and I found the pippies super fresh and salty. It takes a few bites to become familiar with this kind of pasta, but once I was - I was hooked. It is definitely worth a try! I also managed to try their Cioccolatissimo which is a chocolate brownie hidden underneath a bed of fresh cream. The brownie had a soft centre yet a crisp outer layer - pairing that with the fresh cream made for a delectable end to our meal. I've visited this restaurant twice over the last year and feel this restaurant is a great place to go for a mid-week date night for a quiet and satisfying meal.
Really enjoyed baguette, chips and chocolate lava cake there. For the main we ordered mushroom crepe and beef medium rare, crepe was ok, beef looked very raw inside but taste no differentlooks but scary though. Chocolate lava cake was the best I’ve ever had, rich, good quality, well mixed with ice cream hot and cold, with sugar and nutscrispy and soft and with fruits rich and refreshing. Highly recommended!
A really bad night, table of 6 all our meals came at different times and some were cold. One was particularly inedible and tasted like packet food it was sent back but none the less was on the bill. The waiter proudly recommended a wine that tasted like a cheap $5 bottle and the salads were the size of an egg cup. We know good Italian food and this wasn't it. The noise volume is also a concern.
La Pesa is a fantastic little Italian eatery tucked away in Darlinghurst. I almost don't want to rave about it for fear of La Pesa becoming even more popular than it already is! The exterior is quiet and unassuming while the interior is warm and inviting. The staff are excellent - friendly and very accommodating. I definitely recommend a reservation most nights, the place might be out of the way a bit but it has a good following! Food at La Pesa is top-notch. Over the course of several visits I've tried a good variety of the food. Definitely the stand out dishes to me is the Gnocchi outstanding!, the Gnocco Fritto Fried Bread, and the Spaghetti della Pesa Seafood pasta. Each were unique, delicious and in the case of the mains, filling and generous. The gnocchi especially is what keeps me coming back. It's that good! I've normally been there with just my girlfriend or a small group, but on one occassion they handled a very big group 15+ very well. We were offered a smaller menu but with the main highlights still available gnocchi, specials of the day, etc, along with a great starter platter for the table. It made for a great birthday destination, and the staff always impressed. Highly recommended!
YESS!! Finally a French restaurant that knows how to make French food without serving snails and frogs. The staff is very friendly, the wine is good. And the food just worst is price, very rare for a French restaurant. It feels like my mum just came to sydney to cook me some goodies. LOVE IT!
Classico Moderno is a fantastic Northern Italian restaurant in Darlinghurst helmed by talented maestro Bryan Gerlini. It respects the cooking and food from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. I had eaten here a couple of times and truly loved the venue on both occasions. A while back I shot all the pics on the website before they opened and I got to fall in love with some truly fantastic food then and then more recently I had a mini degustation meal at the lovely venue. The Contechino Slider aka Pig Trotter slider is a fave that brought back childhood memories, it is truly delicious and while nostalgic to cheaper childhood flavours is made with some magnificently prepared ingredients. The savoury mortadella mousse cannoli is also a dish I will never forget - superbly present covered in pistachio powder the flavours dance across the tongue. The squid cooked two ways in a pea puree is a personal favourite and the Zupa Inglese dessert will definitely fit so don't pass on it. The menu is all about freshness and flavours and while they are mostly smaller tapas styled dishes made for sharing, just order more, you won't be disappointed. And the wine - get it matched or if dining a la carte ask them for recommendations on what will suit the mains or what you will like the most. The wine is as nuanced as the food presentation and Chef's recipes.
Awesome French restaurant have the chicken your first time but you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The owner and chef are very friendly and engaging. Overall, one of go to restaurants in this area
