Story

Komeyui Japanese Restaurant adapts the traditional Japanese rice cooking method (using hagama - cast iron rice cooker imported from Japan) that has approx. 900 years history. We aim to offer authentic and traditional Japanese dining experience to our customers, and to make wholesome Japanese food more accessible to anyone who wishes to enjoy and benefit from healthy Japanese eating.

Staff are very attentive. Food was fresh and tasty. Good selection of Japanese sake and beer. Quite simple interior. All staff that served were from Japan. I would recommend anyone in the port Melbourne area to try it at least once.

Very fresh sushi and plenty of other items on the menu if you prefer to avoid raw fish. They have a number of signature dishes like the "nori crunch" with spicy yellowfin tuna. Presentation of food is carefully done. The tempura is always perfectly cooked. Service is flawless. The ambiance is calm and elegant and thankfully, the volume level of music is kept a comfortable low level.

One of Melbourne’s finest restaurants, would highly recommend visiting. Kuma and the team are passionate about what they deliver. Authentic and traditional, I had such a lovely time, I must come back soon!

Can be very busy and noisy but don't let that deter you, the food service is first rate and the staff are attentive and efficient. Great selection of Sake to round out a perfect Japanese dining experience.
