Story

On a picturesque Georgian styled street, nestling behind a 19th-century facade, is this beautifully-preserved building surrounded by similarly aged historic windmills, shops and gunpowder mills.

Superbly located near Cataract Gorge, we have a warm, the Watermill Bar and Restaurant offers patrons a welcoming atmosphere and a long standing reputation for imaginative, freshly cooked cuisine.

Stylishly refurbished, a warm, friendly welcome awaits.

Originally built as a mill house in 1825 on the banks of the Isis River, Watermill Bar and Restaurant has enjoyed a colourful history as one of the oldest buildings in Launceston.

Its Georgian cobblestone walls and rustic interior complete with open fireplace takes you back to a bygone era.

The building stands as testimony to its founder Andrew Gatenby, an early pioneer of Van Diemen’s Land. Arriving with his young family in 1823, they settled on a parcel of land on the Isis River, then known as Penny Royal Creek.

Watermill Bar and Restaurant ‘s old world charm and handy location close to Cataract George and Launceston’s CBD makes it an ideal place to stop and refresh yourself with a cold pint or something from our eclectic menu.

Whether you’re after a quick lunch, a romantic dinner by the river or just a friendly greeting in your local pub, we’d love to welcome you to the Watermill Bar and Restaurant.

New owners Lisa and Damien have a successful history in the services industry, and are committed to bringing a whole new feel, standard of service and atmosphere to this 200 year old building.

Both Lisa and Damien are committed to providing all patrons to the Watermill Bar and Restaurant with the best service that Launceston has to offer.

Originally from a small country town near Bundaberg QLD, they have spent the past five years working on various business ventures in Melbourne. In an industry where experience is king, their knowledge gained working in Melbourne’s fiercely competitive hospitality industry is sure to come through their desire to provide Watermill Bar and restaurant guests with a world class dining experience.

So come in and say hello, as they are looking forward to meeting you.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Excellent place. Young people but mature, so no trouble. Always made to feel welcome, despite my disability, and people so friendly and make allowances for both me and my white cane. Non-alcoholic beer and gin which is excellent for me considering I don’t drink due to my visual disability due to safety reasons. Definitely my go to place now. Toilets well maintained as well.
A fabulous place to drop in after a walk,,and a perfect place to take friends for a relaxing drink in lovely surroundings. Nice selection of craft beer and spirits, wine and cocktails.
Lovely bar staff, great atmosphere and fairly reasonably priced. Coffee and food during the day, drinks and cocktails in the evening. A class act all round!
Great for evening drinks best time to go to get a seat is between 4pm and 6pm.
Visited this Bar a number of times and never disappoints great atmosphere friendly staff great drinks and don’t even get me started on the world class Toilets a total gem and great find for anyone. Will definitely be back
I went here first time other day at around 1pm nice warm cosy little pub had a
Good beer and friendly atmosphere, but very busy and not very big. Paid £12 for two pints, which is ridiculously expensive, considering we moved onto the Princess afterwards and paid just over £6 for the same two drinks! I am quite used to paying £12 or more for two drinks, but usually in London, or a hotel. Love the concept and reminds me of a lovely little gin/wine bar in Usk that I used to visit, that offered something different than the other pubs local didn't have. I would have given four stars if not so expensive, but considering that it was very busy, proves a fact that people are willing to pay the price for a more refined bar in Wollaston!
Great bar, love it! Lovely staff and excellent selection of crafts!
Oh Kingsbridge, how much do I loveth thee... It is an absolute gem of a pub. The atmosphere is wonderful, the seating is fantastic, the food is delicious and don't even start me on the loos...I ask anyone, have you ever gone into a loo which is so clean, the loo seat so high it feels like you're floating and I'd absolutely eat my cake or cob in there. 5 stars all the way Kingsbridge
Really enjoyed it here, they pour a good pint, got some real ales on tap, the better half had some really nice wine. Staff are friendly and it's nicely decorated. We've come back about 5 or 6 times now despite all the other pubs we pass on the route. Can't not give it a 5 stars
