Kawana Flourmill and Waterwheel (1854) – full name Kawana Kerei Mill - The Kawana flour mill near Matahiwi was built in 1854, and is the last remaining flour mill on the Whanganui River. It is also the oldest water-powered flourmill still in existence in New Zealand. Unlike many of the other Māori-owned mills, which only operated briefly, the Kawana mill ground flour for over 50 years. This site is item number 19 on the History of New Zealand in 100 Places list.
