We ordered a lamb pie, some scallop pies, and a sourdough roll for our table.nnThe pies were quite flaky, although not entirely so. The lamb pie was nice. The lamb inside is the sort you’d expect from any other beef/lamb pie - gravy-based?.nnThe scallop pies, which are unique, were OK. The filling was, unfortunately, overpowered by the chutney/curry taste which was mixed into the filling. I would’ve preferred to be able to appreciate the taste of the scallop more.nnSourdough roll was disappointing for a place that prides itself as “bakers of fine breads, cakes, and pastries.” Not enough crust on the outside, and not enough alveoli on the inside.
In the charming streets of Hobart, where the past lingers in every stone and beam, you’ll find Jackman & McRoss—a true local favorite. Housed in a beautiful century-old building, this bakery offers a wide array of pastries, pies, and sweets that cater to all tastes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a perfect spot to escape the hustle of the city and enjoy a moment of comfort.nnOn the wall, the blackboard menu features daily specials that are packed with flavor. These dishes are thoughtfully prepared, with each bite offering a burst of taste that leaves you wanting more. The attention to detail in every recipe shows the care and passion behind the kitchen.nnThe service is excellent, whether you’re ordering at the counter or being served at one of the many tables. The friendly staff ensures you’re well taken care of. With over twenty tables, it’s a lively place, but even at its busiest, it maintains a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes every visit a pleasure.
Extensive pie and pastry options. Scallop pie filling was great. Pie crust a little dry, could be better. Nice rustic interior. 1 particular lady staff was not in a good mood
The food was good. Was looking forward to the scallops pie. The scallops taste clean and slight sweet. A good combination with green curry. Also, we ordered the beef pie, which is ordinary but not bad.
Wonderful cafe in the heart of Hobart. My first time trying the scallop pie and I was impressed by how fresh the scallop was. Delicious looking pastries and many options of sour dough to try. Will definitely return when I visit Hobart again.
