Let me start off by saying that I have never left a negative review for anything and that the staff and the food on the Indian Pacific are brilliant and although the train is starting to show it's age we were in Gold class it's not unbearable, however the train and company running the show are extremely unreliable and for what you end up getting the trip is unbelievably expensive. We travelled as a party of 8 to celebrate a couple of significant birthdays and let's face it, the reason you catch a train like the Indian Pacific is for the experience. To start with about a month out they cancelled the Broken Hill experience this is a regular occurrence I have been told they said it was because of extensive rail traffic meaning we couldn't pull up there. Whilst on the trip they cancelled the Kalgoorlie experience citing rail traffic as an excuse the excursion/breakfast to Rawlinna was a debacle with everyone scurrying to try and get something to eat and drink it was like something out of the hunger games my wife was sent from one area to another and back again to try and get a simple glass of orange juice. She eventually settled on coffee and yes you guessed it, they gave her tea. The "experience" in Cook is just so that the train can fill up with water. There is rubbish everywhere and it's not much of an experience but a good chance to stretch your legs. We arrived late into Adelaide so the off train excursion to the Adelaide Hills was a rushed trip through peak hour traffic, breakfast at a look out in the fog and back into the bus. At Broken Hill we were told that there had been engine problems and we ended up sitting in Broken Hill for hours remember I said that they cancelled the Broken Hill excursion because of excess rail traffic. In two hours we didn't see another train. We were then advised that because of the engine difficulties we would have to get off at Lithgow, catch a bus to Katoomba and then catch a specially chartered train an old countrylink train to Central. One of the bus drivers told us that this has been a regular occurrence the last 5 weeks always citing an issue at Broken Hill because they have added extra carriages to make up for lost money during Covid and therefore the train is too long to pull up anywhere. The time given on the travel documents to arrive in Sydney was 12:30 or 3:30 if you were doing the Blue mountains experience. As we were sitting around waiting for Buses at Lithgow at 12:30, many of us had to cancel the already shortened Blue mountains experience because we had connections we had to make in Sydney. The trip cost us nearly 6 thousand dollars, for most of this time you are sitting looking out the window at the desert drinking. Yes you will see kangaroo, camel's and the occasional dingo but you will also be stuck on a train feeling disappointed because you are not getting what you paid for. Based on this experience I would not recommend the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney. Spend the money flying business class instead and enjoy a few extra days holiday.
No value for the excessive price. The train was 1.5hr delayed without any explanation and therefore the only visit stop was cancelled. On top of it, the train station was outside the city and no taxi nor bus was provided. 2 days waste of time and money. Thank you for selling a lie.
The ticket price does not justify the quality of train or services. Just some very average low standard carriage. Its NOT an orient express and meanwhile, it costs from 2000$ and to 9000$. Really?! Airline first class doesn't even cost that much for domestic flights. The carriage needs a total upgrade with high-end standard to justify its price.
We cancelled our booking at the beginning of March and were told we would receive a full refund within 10 days. Still no refund as of 30/5/20 and no correspondence. Their customer service is absolutely appalling and I would definitely not recommend booking with them..
take a train ride from darwin to alice springs,, its a 24 hour ride and very nice scenery,,
Translated by Google We drove 4 days and 3 nights from Perth to Sydney and can only recommend this trip. The service on board was awesome and we were able to let the entire Australian countryside pass us, just a great thing and every time Original Wir sind 4 Tage und 3 Nächte von Perth nach Sydney gefahren und können diese Fahrt nur empfehlen. Der Service an Bord war Super und wir konnten die gesamte Landschaft Australiens an uns vorbei ziehen lassen, einfach eine tolle Sache und jeder Zeit wieder
