In the shadow of Mt Tarawera lies on the shores of its eponymous lake, lies one of the regions best secrets. Hot Springs boil up through the sand on seep into the lakes surface creating a unique remote experience.
Beware the steaming stream! Hot water is hot indeed.
This beach served as the finish line to a 42 or 50km Ultra marathon in recent years. A journey from geyser to volcano via the famous Te Wairoa (Buried Village).

A long walk to get there so I kayaked instead took about 2 hours the water at the beach can be scaldingly hot be careful near the camp is an hot water river too.

I placed one star  not regarding the place cause im sure it is amazing but to arrive to it. I was trying to go to the camp sight from 5 pm but couldnt find the road for the place or somewhere close where i can leave the car at so this made me  miss my booking due to not finding out where to go as there are no signs anywhere where to go and when asking locals not even they knew about the place. For future reference im sure its a lovely place to camp but pre think your arrival guys as i was lead through almost all provate land and couldnt make it, (NB) dont take the highland road cause i was stopped 3 times when doing my journey in as it is all private

Hiked in and was amazed by this campground and beach. The lake water is hot! 84C our guide told us. Camp sites were flat and clean, very private this time of year. Can't wait to go back.
