Established in 2004, we have grown to become Sydney's largest second hand Japanese/English book shop. Hondarake means "Full Of Books" in Japanese, which also describes our store, where you will find a range of genuine Japanese Toys, Souvenirs, Cosmetics...etc.

Quaint lovely bookshop with a wide range of goods! The staff are nice and welcoming too. The location is a bit hard to find, so look through the reviews if you are lost.

Extremely friendly staff - Lots of 2nd hand Japanese books you can't really find. There are few English translated books but that didn't bother me as I wasn't looking for English translated books. It is bit tricky to find if it is your first time visiting - There's entrance to the building through Liverpool ST or Dixon ST. Do not rely on google and go to Sussex ST as there are no entrance to the building. For someone who was looking for cheap Japanese children's book it was perfect place to find them!

First time commenting under Google map. The owner of the bookstore is an amazing person. It’s a LITTLE bit hard to find but it’s definitely worth it. 5 stars for the owner.

I don't always come to secondhand book store but this place is really a hidden gem. If you're into Japanese culture, you'll definitely love this store. The lady owner is so lovely and you can find anything in Japanese, even English. Manga, magazine, cds, etc..... I found these brand new seal and I'm so over the moon.

Very cool little second-hand Japanese book store. Entrance is tricky - go through the red door on 35-39 Liverpool St.

A lovely, cozy little bookshop. You can find the lift to the second floor through a red door on Liverpool Street, or the opening on Dixon Street. Once inside the courtyard, follow the signs to Hondarake.  The owner is very friendly and was kind enough to pull down a small section of kimono books for me to look through. The prices are very affordable too. Definitely a place I'll visit again whenever I visit Sydney!

The book store owner is very lovely and assists me whenever I go to purchase books for my mother. The prices are also fantastic for getting Japanese novels.  If you need assistance she's very lovely, so ask politely if you need help :!
