Cosy and relaxed. My local coffee shop in the country town of leeston. Good range of food at a reasonable price compared with the city coffee houses. Worth a try if you are out this way.

We visited the cafe in Leeston. The scones were stale but the coffee was good. There were a lot of flies around the table.

I go to Leeston regularly having been born & bred there. I visit my parents, silbings at the Catholic Cemetery and buy Antiques from the Sisters there. Went today and as usual looked forward to breakfast at Hillyers first. Ordered Pancakes and really looking forward to them after the drive from Redliffs. Waited, waited - the people that ordered just before us got their cooked meals so we would be next. Waited, waited - still no food. I asked the chef about the pancakes and was told there were 5 meals before ours. About 10 minutes after we arrived & had ordered, I had purchased 2 pies to take with us for later and 5 people came in who had reserved seats. It was obvious their order had been made a priority and ours had to wait. I am so unhappy about this. It spoiled my day so much so that I did not buy anything at the Antique Shop. Wasn't in the mood after the fiasco at Hillyers and was really hungry by then. They even added insult to injury and offered a $20 voucher which I will not use. What was I supposed to do with a voucher, eat it! I didn't go there for a voucher, I thought it was an eatery. I will never go there again. I will go to the new pub where I hear they do a great breakfast. I still have to go to Leeston to visit my living and departed relies, Our family were founding fathers in Ellesmere from 1857 so I am pretty much related to most out there. My first job was NZ Post Office 2 doors from Hillyers. My brother worked for MED which is the building that now houses Hillyers, Leeston and my sister worked at the Pharmacy so lots of history there. I will make no more history in my life with Hillyers.
