Escape or be ready to be charged more than expected +10% for us. More mileage charged. Contract based on estimated charge so they can charge you what they want at the end. Useless Customer service.
My recommendation is not to rent from Hertz or its subsidiary, FireFly, at Alice Springs Airport. First of all, they never answer their phone. My limo driver from the Hilton to the airport had never heard of Firefly, so he repeatedly tried to call them just to find out their location...no answer. Dread to think what would have happened had the car broken down in the Outback. My rental reservation was for a 10am pickup, the busiest time at the airport, when flights land and depart Alice Springs. So you would think the Hertz-FireFly Counter would be staffed at that busy time. I waited for over an hour, watching customers at the other rental counters, get their cars and go. When the Hertz-Firefly agent decided to make an appearance. We did the paperwork, handed over the keys and directed me to the lot, but did not go with me. I inspected the vehicle...total body damage see photos, one area with a giant gash across the passenger side door to the rear panel over the back tire. Went back to the counter to ask for another car as I was staying at the DoubleTree Hilton and didn't really want to drive up in a bright red vehicle in that condition. See the attached paperwork for that rental. Note that the damage the agent marked does not accurately reflect the damage on the vehicle. She said all she had was one other vehicle without GPS. Without another option, I took the vehicle. When I tried to return the vehicle for my 8:30am check-in at Virgin Australia, I discovered that the agent had not given me a re-entry ticket to their own lot. Must also mention that I was disabled, walking with crutches, neck brace, XcelTrax boot. The person helping with my luggage was waiting at the Virgin Australia check-in, while I sat at the Hertz gate for five minutes pressing the intercom button with no response. In retrospect, should have just left the car parked at the gate because there was a note pasted to the intercom that said, 'Don't take a ticket if you can't get in--Ring the buzzer.' Just like their phone, no one answered the intercom. Had to take a ticket to get in to park the vehicle, to make my flight. Hobbled to the Hertz-Firefly Counter. Of course, no one was there, so I dropped the parking ticket and key into the Hertz-Firefly slot. When I got back to the USA, they charged an additional $23 on my credit card for an hour late return fee. How could that possibly be, when my reservation was for 10am on Aug 9th 2019 and my departing flight left at 9:40am on August 13, and I checked-in around 8:00am with Virgin? These are little tricks used to scam customers and the rental insurance company if you bought the additional insurance for extra money. Recommendation: Don't rent from Hertz or FireFly, but if you must... If you are attracted by the unlimited mileage offer and do decide to rent from them after reading this review, and don't mind getting a damaged vehicle, make sure to check your vehicle completely prior to driving it away, and take photographs. The agent will not go out with you to do so. They know that most customers trust the Hertz reputation and use that to their advantage. Again, review my paperwork for that rental, and you will see that the damage the agent marked does not reflect the actual damage on the vehicle. Make sure you get two tickets for the parking lot, both an exit ticket and a return ticket, because Hertz-Firefly will not be there when you return your vehicle to catch the only morning Virgin Australia flights departing Alice Springs. Examine your paperwork thoroughly. Now I understand why no one was renting from Hertz and/or FireFly.
Hertz - Alice Springs airport & CBD went above and beyond any other hire car service I have ever encountered. I would recommend booking with them. Sam the airport clerk was very helpful and provided us with a car at short notice at a suitable price, as well as free sight seeing tips. His kindness was amazing. Thanks.
Sam was absolutely amazing and helped get us out of a pickle. After our booking fell through with another provider, Sam was able to secure us a car on the spot allowing us to drive all the way from Alice Springs to Uluru and back. Great customer service and super friendly. Thank you!
The car was great, no issues at all but the customer service in Alice Springs airport is lacking. We got the car really fast with no check of the vehicle or fuel which was not full. So when we went to return it in adelaide we were asked to fill up the tank very nicely and way better customer service. In the end we did with no other issue but just beware and demand better service at Alice Springs to not get any surprises. Also recommend taking photos if they dont give it to you 100% okay.
16/10/2021 needed to hire a car for 4 days. After enquiring at the Thrifty counter where I was met by a rude slob who posses no customer service skills at all, I enquired at Hertz. What a difference!!!! The lady that served me was friendly, kind & so professional. In no time at all I had a car & felt great about it. Plus it was $500 cheaper than Thrifty. Hertz, I can't remember your staff members name but she was working at the Airport at 1300hrs 16/10/2021 & deserves recognition for her great customer service. I will definitely be doing business with Hertz in the future.
I have rented from Hertz all over Australia & had the worst experience here. The old guy serving me was rude & unprofessional without a new tag. Handed over the counter 2 filthy child seats yet pre-charged my card twice none tie back to the original amount. With 3 luggages & 3 kids, I had to carry the child seats myself to the car park. I came back to the counter for assistance & was told they don’t do child seat installation BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW - SO PARENTS BEWARE. Won’t recommend this car rental if you come to ASP. Unprofessional. Rude. Expensive. Unhelpful. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
Worst car hire service i've ever worked with. 3 months before our trip, had booked a small sedan for our northern territory road trip to maximise fuel efficiency. On arrival, wasnt given the correct vehicle - a giant suv instead of a small car. Informed by staff that this was a "free upgrade" then saw the car was quite old and had poor fuel efficiency. Had to ask for compensation in the form of unlimited kms. Attempted to call manager on two seperate days, both going to voice message with nil call returned. Called hertz global line and was able to finally get a mid sized car for our long northern territory driving trip. After finally getting in contaxt with manager, manager was very rude and critical of us turning down the bigger vehicle and refused to help us any further. Also heard other hertz customers had the same issue at the alice springs office ie that they recieved larger less fuel efficient vehicles instead of small ones they had booked 3 months ago. This highlights poor planning on behalf of the alice office and the futility of booking online - therefore we recommend never booking with this hertz office!
Booked through Alice Springs Info Centre to get access to unlimited km per day. Toyota Prado made travelling the Western Way so much more enjoyable; air con & a comfortable ride were really appreciated after doing an early morning trek.
I have been calling their phone number all day and it continuously rings out, so I can't even leave a message asking them to call me back. They also don't appear to have an email address listed. I need to contact them urgently about getting car seats for children added to the booking, but I'm not able to get through.
