Outstanding visit. Well informed , infectiously enthusiastic staff and you can get very close to all of the animals. Enjoyed the Tales from Platypus Creek seeing playful, unique mammals close up. The Koala Close Up was another great experience, but the Spirits of the Sky display was enthralling. Native birds of prey swooping among the audience was thrilling. A thoroughly enjoyable visit.

It's a nice zoo with lots of trees. It specializes more on Australian native animals. You will be able to see emus up close as you enter the zoo. Wombats are presented nicely. The koalas have their own huge section that even if there a lot of people visiting, I'm sure you will be able to spot one for your photo opportunity. The kangaroos has their own area too, and you will be able to see them up close. They have wetlands area where you can be a bird watcher and see all the birds there. Platypus have their own hall, it's a bit dark, just mentioned it to your little ones that they still have lights inside, so not to be afraid.
They have twice bird of prey show in the flight arena. So be sure to check the schedule when you enter the zoo. There a lot other animals to see.
It has a lot of shaded area and resting benches along the way, so you definitely can have a short break along the way.

I love Healesville Sanctuary very much. I have been here twice and both of the experiences are very amazing. There are many activities that we can do. But the most exciting one is the Spirit of the Sky feature show. We can see the actual bird from wildlife fly around and do some tricks that I'm sure everybody enjoy. And if you are lucky you also can participate as well. For the Daily presentations, Healesville Sanctuary have Australian Wildlife Health Centre, Wombat, Tasmanian Devils, Kangaroos, Lyrebirds, Koalas, and Dingoes presentation. Also, the place itself makes people enjoy it so much because itis covered by Australian native trees and it will make you feel cool in the hot weather and preventing wind in the cold weather.
Compared to Melbourne zoo, I think Healesville Sanctuary is different. Because in here, it only presenting Australian Native animal while Melbourne zoo is also presenting animal from all over the world. But I can say that my trip to Healesville Sanctuary is better than to Melbourne Zoo.
If you an Animal Lover you can also become a member for cheaper entrance price.
In summary, i give Healesville Sanctuary 9 out of 10.

An amazing family experience. Close up animal encounters, informed and engaging zoo staff and volunteers. Lots of space to spread out and have a picnic. Creek water play area that probably use some steps to go down into for toddlers but not a problem otherwise. Fantastic and worth the visit.

This place just keeps getting better and better. We come regularly to the Sanctuary and live seeing the new updates that constantly keep improving this place. My children love that there are volunteers around all the time to answer questions, that the staff can be found walking around with a creature for you to get up close to and they love the shows. There is plenty of parking and on super busy days they have over flow car parks. Please note that on total fire ban days the Sanctuary is closed. There is a main restaurant/cafe to eat at. It's a bit pricey and can be really busy. There are also a couple of smaller cafes around the Sanctuary. Or alternatively pack a picnic, grab a rug and find a spot to enjoy nature. There is a play ground and a few other spots for the kids to run & climb on. A big hit with the kids is the animal hospital where they can play at being a vet. Sometimes they may have an injured animal they may be operating on in view so keep that in mind if you or your littlies are a bit squeamish.
