Absolutely fantastic salon. Could not recommend highly enough. Service is outstanding with the friendliest staff, Michael, Jessie, Antoni and Jess go above and beyond. The cut and colour was flawless and I couldn’t be happier. Would recommend to everyone and have returned several times with the same excellent service. Would now never go to another hair salon. Thanks Hair By The Collective.

Jessie did an amazing job with my short hair cut and colour. She took her time with me understanding what I was after and showing me examples of colour before doing my hair. Had a great time chatting to her and a super relaxing shoulder massage and hair wash. Would highly recommend Jessie !!

Not a huge fan of here. Got a haircut using the Groupon deal. The hairdresser ended up cutting off way too much and there was little to no stying. I'm not very fussy with my hair at all, but I had gone from long locks to an asymmetrical, short and botchy job. I gave it a week grace period to let it grow on me and find its groove but I ended up going back to my old hairdresser to fix it. Sorry guys, not cool

I cannot recommend the team highly enough. I'd had a terrible experience at another professional salon leaving me with a completely unmanageable cut and a revolting colour (the end result of a colour strip, the wrong colour being put in twice and completely washing out 😞)
On my first visit, they absolutely nailed the colour which held for weeks and the cut was perfect 😄 so super happy and looking forward to my next appointment.

I’ve wanted to write a review about my hair colour experience over a month ago as I aspired to achieve the “perfect” balayage or ombre look and it fell short of this goal. I hope this review is helpful to anyone wanting to go out and spend your hard earned $$$$ on this popular hairstyle, and hopefully this will also help you avoid getting into a mess!
I might be the only one person who has a bad experience with this hair salon. I did my research (Reviews are fantastic with this hair salon) and got a recommendation from my friend. However, at the end of the day I wasted my time and money. All I can say is that I had just a bad bad bad bad experience.
I wanted to be as ash blonde as possible without the hassle of having significant dark roots. Balayage is supposed to be the solution for low maintenance(well blended), blonde(ish) hair. It is a complex process I have had successfully done before with great result.
I decided to see a stylist @hairby_thecollective located in East Brisbane, QLD as my previous hairdresser moved to Sunshine Coast who I’d never been to before. When I arrived at the salon, I showed the hairdresser some photos of what I wanted to look like and mentioned how I wanted to lighten my existing balayage.
About 4 hours later, she turned my hair into following photos. She cut more than I requested because the end of my hair melted entirely including my back of the head. I still struggle to brush my hair. I still remember that when she was blow-drying my hair and I saw all white melted hair was floating around.
I waited two days and see how it would eventually turn out. I couldn't believe my own eyes. Some days I part my hair different ways and wear it in different styles. After noticing all the misplaced bleach and harsh straight lines, I immediately contacted them for the refund. They suggested me to come back to the salon to fix the problem but how can I trust their skillsets since what've they done to my hair. I debated on just going somewhere else and they decide to refund only $150. Yes, I spent $410 Inc non-stylish haircut.
My previous hairdresser, who had done Balayage on my hair before, got back to me and said my toner already washed off TWO DAYS later and I have every right to request full hair colour refund.
So, on Saturday, 6 January 2018, I visited the salon for a cut and colour service, on Tuesday, 9 January 2018, I contacted them to discuss concerns with my hair and not completely satisfied with the final result. (The owner even said that my hair melt because I have an Asian hair, thick and black. #casualracism) I sent formal emails on the same day to renegotiate the financial compensation.
10 January 2018, I haven't heard from them, so I consulted with Office of Fair Trading Queensland and ACCC for further assistant. I sent another email and guessed when did they get back to me.
16 January 2018, they sent an email that they do not wish to refund more than $150 and cc to their lawyer.
They strong-armed me.
So I booked my next hair colour service to fix and I thought It is just hair… as hard as it is to convince myself when I am actually in this situation, know that a reliable service provider can fix it. It turns out my hair melted enormously and won’t able to retouch my hair for a couple of months. Thanks to you, Hair by the collective.
I will never go back after such a terrible experience.
