Welcome to the Governors Eatery and Bar – An experience exclusive to Taranaki

We have been very popular since we opened and have had fantastic reviews for its buffet breakfast, A la carte lunch and dinner menus showcasing New Zealand cuisine with an emphasis on free range and organic products. We are also very proud to showcase local Taranaki produce in our Menu. We are passionate about our food which is accompanied with friendly & sensational service. Our Governors team would like to invite you to an unprecedented culinary experience & a true New Zealand service from the moment you step into the restaurant or bar. Governors features an indoor dining area for up to 70 and an outdoor area which is perfect to relax with your meal accompanied by a fine New Zealand wine or refreshing beverage of your choice. Breakfast from 6am – 10am, lunch from 11am to 3 pm, dinner from 6pm till 10pm.

We had lamb shanks, pork ribs and quite a few cocktails. Overall an amazing experience. We were served by the lad named Lijo who was absolutely the best with his service and great smile! Would definitely dine here again!
We dined here over two nights - one eating from their standard menu and the other a Diwali Buffet Special. Both menus were absolutely delicious! The standard menu has a great mix of up-market kiwi dishes that were fresh and in season. Of note, the Lamb Rumb was cooked to perfection and the Bannoffee Tarte was just as delicious as the pictures make it look! We definitely made the most of their $12 Happy Hour drinks! Thanks to the lovely blonde lad behind the bar who kept the cocktails flowing - awesome service! The Diwali Buffet Special was an absolute highlight! We stumbled on it accidentally and were so glad to have done! What great opportunity to try a selection of Indian dishes that we'd not normally order at a Curry House, including some traditional Indian desserts to finish off the night! I hope they do another night in the future, and if so I'd recommend everyone booking ahead of time to make sure you can get a table we only just managed to squeeze in on a full house! A special shout out Lucky the Restaurant Manager! He certainly knows how to put on a great spread, and we look forward to dining here again at Haukai Restaurant in the future!
Naan bread stale, plain food with too much sauce, no mention that the chicken burger was spicy on menu, slow service. Manager Ankit was rude when I had to follow up and ask for dessert menus again.
Lunch at stylish Novotel New Plymouth with my best friend was such a pleasure! Excellent choice in matching textures and flavours! Wine matched too. It was Allan Scott Wines #pinotgris . Had to force myself from ordering the second glass! After all it was only lunch. #myMarketingResearch had made me investigate Governors restaurant. Reinforced by two male companions we worked through the menu. Lovely music from their piano bar. Recommended starter - Japanese inspired prawns with Edamame beans and coconut broth. Best of all - smiles from our friendly waiter.
I absolutely love the food here and recommend it for anyone wanting to go. I may be a bit bias since my sister works there, but I truly enjoyed the food so much
I stay at the Hotel quite a bit but tonight is a reasonable reason why i dont dine here unless i absolutley cannot be bothered going down the road. Sit at the bar as a salesmen would working on laptop and order a wine from the bar, finish that and have a empty glass beside me for 40min, while the waiter offers other guests sitting in groups menus, further drinks etc. Also the menu is past the level of being "just a little over priced" $37 for 3 pieces of "Ravioli" just cream and silverbeet. If you are going to charge like a 5 star eatery, you need to step your game up with service and food quality.

Went on a special Indian buffet dinner, food and menu , both were terrible . Didn’t expected such poor quality from a restaurant in hotel of such high standards
