Beautiful inside and out. Was fortunate to explore inside during an open day. Great on a sunny day with family, nice surrounding grounds and parks.
What an amazing place to visit. Both the building and the gardens are magnificent. Built from the Victorian Gold Rush era, it reflects the extravagant style of the period, and the confidence and wealth of the Victorian gold rush. It's palatial and to this day remains to be the largest residential building in Australia. It has about 240 rooms including outbuildings and together with its outbuildings, gardens and grounds, stands out as one of the grandest houses in the nation. If you ever get the chance, then a visit to this historical mansion is highly recommended.
If you get an opportunity to visit this magnificent building don't turn it down. An amazing part of our Victorian heritage. It is open on Australia Day each year for inspection.
I love the Open House events that happen once a year in Melbourne, then you have a chance to see inside the house. It is very impressive inside and the building itself. Very easy to arrive, lots public transport to get there. The only think that I didn't like much was the green carpet on the dinner room.
AN IMPORTANT BUILDING MARKING THE EARLY POST COLONIAL ERA Government House is a very grand building set in the beautiful parklands and botanic garden. The governor hosts event here quite often for a wide variety of community causes.
The house is open few times during a year to visit and it is stunning and amazing. The grounds are open sometimes too. Visit if you can!

A beautiful expansive property with Australia's history built in. A must visit when you get the opportunity!
