Beautiful Crispy pork with chinese broccoli and oyster sauce. The pork was tender, the skin was still crispy despite basking in the oyster sauce. Had it with coconut rice to balance it with a little bit of sweetness.
JULY 2018 - Closed for renovation. No reopening date displayed. Ridiculously ungainly huge cardboard poster menu, staff that barely understand the menu item numbers and sometimes yell at each other agressively - NOTHING can diminish the superb dishes whether it was humble spring rolls, phad Thai with chicken, pork curry etc etc. All were delightful !! The prices were all under $15 for mains !
The food was very good. It is much good if they serve 'teh tarik' just saying..ha! Ha!. The ambience is also good, showing the Asian feel.
good thai restaurant in Melbourne eventhough not a high casual place but the food was good
Went there for after work dinner on a Tuesday night. Not sure about the review regarding poor service. We were seated right away and during the meal we had no problems in getting the staff attention. The service was polite and prompt. The place was surprisingly busy for a weeknight. As for the food, I ordered the Drunken Chicken Noodles. DELICIOUS! The spice level and flavours were bang on. And the portions quite large for the price. The menu's were massive in physical size. But that was part of the fun. I liked the decor...very deceiving from the outside. I will definitely be back to try the other cuisines on the menu. Well done!
LOVE this place. Staff are amiable and fast and the service is all in all great. Many options to choose from, all of them just as delicious as one another then again, Thai being my favourite food, I'm biased. The menus are hilariously large, but I guess that adds up to the whole experience. Beware though: lunch deals are significantly smaller in size and simpler in ingredients than the normal menu meals. A normal fried rice will be half-sized on a lunch deal; a vegetarian noodle dish which traditionally contains tofu will have none on a lunch deal, and will also be much smaller in size. Nothing new here, I know, but the difference between lunch and dinner were quite astonishing. So, yeah, definitely go to Ghin Khao, but only for dinner. ;
The worst dining experience I've had! The waiters looked like they didn't want to work and were so rude to all customers. The food was terrible. We ordered 3 dishes and they all came out inedible! I'm Thai and I've been eating Thai food my whole life and let me tell you, there's nothing Thai about this place. This restaurant is best to be avoided!
We had visited Ghin Khao Thai food on 5/11/06 bill no:000171 table no 7. We had Ordered 1 Son in Law Vegetarian 2 Veg Tofu veg 3 green chick curry veg The food was terrible. We ordered 3 dishes and they all came out inedible. I told this experience to staff but they didn't respond. Quality of Tofu was bad, it wasn't eatable. We didn't finish our food. my 5 year's daughter is fan of Thai food but she didn't eat a thing and then we eat subway as we all were hungry. from Bill Counter I took manager's ID to complain. we were not satisfied by any dish.
Terrible lunch experience had in a while. Went in for the set lunches but we were told something about the chef not making any more set lunches... It wasn't even 1pm as yet! Decided on Crispy Skin Pork with Chilli and Basil from the $8.50 specials board and it would be on top of my list of the worst dishes in Melbourne. The pork was hard and like jerky consistency, dry and inedible. The skin was far from crispy but more like chewy rubber that would not break. When I told the waitress about it she had no idea what I was talking about and called another waitress who proceeded to tell me that that is the way the dish is as it was "crispy". After explaining to her a couple of times that this meat was not at all acceptable, she asked if we would like to choose something else instead. I would hope the other dishes are not like this.
Very rude and racist staff. Provided unclean bowls to my family including kids. Upon request to change them provided an ugly bowl broken on the edge. When requested politely again the guy banged another bowl on the table. When asked if there was any problems for banging the bowls on the table, the guy remained defiant and unapologetic. He said very roughly that it was an accident and his behaviour was not rude. We asked him to cancel our order for poor service and he showed no remorse. I could sense a different treatment to some other people with different orientation. If this is standard to the customer, I could imagine the hygiene they maintain in the kitchen. Never there again!!!
