I would not send any elderly person there as they do not look after them properly and in fact promote their death. When an elderly tube fed stroke victim is transferred there from the Geelong Hospital, as they did to my mother, while I was in Qld on holiday, they assumed she had poor quality of life and had been sent there to die. She was given fluids orally so it could of been aspirated into her lungs, so that would cause necrosis, (aspirated pneumonia)and die. I saw the half full cup of water on her bed side trolley with her lip marks on it and when I questioned the nurse, I was told it was to flush her feeding tube. They also stopped feeding her days before her death as the liquid nutritional supplements were not touched, that were stored in her cupboard in her room. My mother wanted to live and had communicated this to me. She died within a week of being transferred there as her lung infection (aspirated pneumonia) was not picked up/ignored and not acted on in time. It's a horrible, horrible place. I had to beg for them to give her a panadol to reduce her fever and upon my request, they say they started her on antibiotics, but it was too late, which quite frankly I don't believe is true. She should of been transferred to hospital and given antibiotics via a drip. I know my mother had to die one day, but to die like this is not fair. We were waiting for my brother to come back home so we could take her home and look after her in her final year of life where she had wanted to die. She did not want to be in a nursing home. It was up to me to look after her but I let her down as I was not vigilant enough and unfortunately was in Qld when they transfered her. If I wanted to let her die, I would of let her have a meal and drink when the doctor at the stroke unit pulled me aside and gave me that option. I then asked my mother if that is what she wanted and no it wasn't. I believe she was also not adequately hydrated as her mouth was so dry and she keep saying she was so thirsty and wanted a drink. Her words "I'm so thirsty" will always haunt me for the rest of my life. Unfortunately as a single working parent with 2 disabled children to look after on my own, I did the best I could with the little time I had.

Geelong lodge provided accommodation to residents of a younger age with disabilities or mental health we are not an aged care home we also provide low care accommodation and while we support and encourage residents to be independant we dont provide intense personal care At no time would we be accepting of elderly stroke patients nor tube feeding residents Geelong lodge was also effected by a major water leak and was being renovated for 12 months prior to this entry being listed on here This person is unknown to any of my staff who work at and manage the facility . Please check the facility you are referring to as it doesnt appear to be geelong lodge
