I was absolutely disgusted with today's service.nWe went as a table of 10.nWe were told we couldn't order the banquet and separate meals as not everyone wanted the banquet, so we just ordered different dishes.nThe nayi came out with no bread, I asked multiple times and yet still didn't get it. I went to the front to ask for bread again when the manager said he was getting it.nThe fresh cut chips had no salt, and the lemon garlic chicken was burnt. We sent it back to the kitchen. The manager was rude. After an awful experience, I thought it was best to walk outside as I turned to leave, I was met with the managers foot as he tried to trip me when I walked out. I was furious. He swore black and blue that he didnt mean it.nI will NEVER enter Gebrans again.
Delicious Lebanese food at reasonable prices. We had a range of dips, tabbouleh, fish, chicken ribs, grilled egg plant and mixed grill. The service was excellent and the food came out quickly. We will definitely be back again. Highly recommended!
Amazing Lebanese restaurant. The food is authentic and very tasty. The staff is friendly and accomodating.
I’m genuinely disappointed with my recent visit to Gebran Lebanese Restaurant, especially given the good reputation it once had. We attended on a Sunday afternoon for dinner and stood at the entrance for about five minutes before anyone acknowledged us, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. When we were finally seated, the waiter seemed reluctant to serve us and gave the impression he didn’t want to take our order at all.nnOnce the order was taken, the experience only deteriorated. The food took an unusually long time to come out and was served plate by plate over an extended period, making the meal feel completely disjointed. The quality was far from what we expected: the hommus tasted like it came straight from a can, and the mansaf was extremely dry and lacking flavour. The rice was dry, the mince tasted overcooked, and the lamb was also dry. To make things worse, several items from our order were missing.nnWe had also ordered from the sushi menu, but the sushi was bland and forgettable. Overall, the food quality and flavour were far below acceptable—especially for the prices being charged, which felt unreasonable given both the service and portion sizes.nnI truly cannot recommend this place anymore. It feels like a shell of its former self. If you’re looking for good Lebanese food, you’ll likely have a significantly better experience anywhere else. Sadly, Gebran seems to have lost the charm and quality it once had.
My dining companion was half joking when he said, “I bet he owns the winery too.” We’re seated in Gebran Lebanese Cuisine, a Mount Lewis stalwart for more than two decades. He’s referring to owner, John Gebran, who incidentally did, in 2021, purchase the Goulburn winery, Kingsdale, that dominates the succinct wine list. We’re actually dining next door to the main restaurant—once designated as Padrino Italian, but swept up into the popularity of the rustic North Lebanese. Gebran also owns Aji, the neighbouring Japanese his “second favourite cuisine”. You can order food from both restaurants in either of them.nnThe cooking methods at Gebran are simple—the same as you’d find in old-school rural Lebanese kitchens—where all of the animal is in play. Scooped up in branded flatbread, hlaywat $26—pan-seared sweetbreads in lemon, garlic and parsley—is a great exemplar. It eats well with the reasonably-priced Kingdale Chardonnay $45. Creamy lamb shawarma-topped hommos $18 arrives faster than you can ask, ‘where is our food?’ Labneh harrah $16—where strained yogurt labneh is gently combined with spicy red chili paste harissa, almonds and pistachio—was new to me. It suited being wrapped up in flatbread with pickles $5 and grilled meats from the mixed grill $38/6. The barbecued lamb, chicken and kafta skewers also come with a pot of garlic sauce. You can also get split jumbo king prawns $13/each if you prefer a seafood feast to a land-based one. The only miss on our table-wide spread was the Gebran salad $20 where lettuce—topped with golden nuggets of deep-fried halloumi—was limp rather than crisp.
