The main arena seated 7,000 people and opened in 1915. Robert Dickson Alison Frew was the president of the Queensland Lawn Tennis Association (later Tennis Queensland) from 1910 to 1930. He was the driving force behind the creation of the tennis centre. It hosted eight Australian Open/Championships, including the first tournament where professionals were allowed in 1969. In addition, it staged three Davis Cup finals, in 1958, 1962, and 1967.English rock band The Rolling Stones performed at the venue during their 1973 Pacific Tour on 14 February 1973.The venue closed in 1999 because of heavy financial losses by Tennis Queensland. In 2014, the site was redeveloped by the Brisbane City Council as Frew Park, a combined park and tennis centre. Quite a park for all ages. Tennis, fitness corner, concrete playground with many twists, sensors for younger ones, bbqs, picnic tables. One could easily spend half a day here while kids play their hearts out. A couple of fitness equipment would need refreshing, overall it's still a perfect spot for many to play and chill. I'll be back!
Reviewed by my 8 year old daughter.nnI really liked Frew Park because of the rock climbing wall and the fact it was a good park for older kids.nI liked it how it was inclusive of all kids.nThe big metal slide fun.
Great park with lots of different structures for all age groups. The parking lot gets full quite quickly during peak times and days. Off-street parking is available but kindly ensure to read the signs where you park.nnIt's got a large ground for ball games and a large lawn area near the play structures to enjoy a picnic. Lots of shaded bench sitting available as well.nnThere's a path for cycling, skating or just walking.nnThere's exercise equipment as well which is often more popular with the kids than the adults .nnToilets are available and a cafe too although not sure if it's open over weekends.nnAll in all it's a fantastic park and highly recommend it.
Features an impressive, expansive playground perfect for kids. The equipment is top-notch, with large slides, rock climbing walls, and various other fun activities to keep young ones entertained.nnHowever, the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the park could use some improvement. An unpleasant smell of urine is noticeable in certain areas, detracting from the experience.
This is what Brisbane winters are supposed to be and this is the perfect playground to enjoy it in!! Amazing activities for kids of all ages and plenty of BBQs and shaded tables. Close to Rosalie Village and Baroona Rd shops. Not to mention tennis courts for the big kids.
