10/10 experience. Stayed for 2nights, 3days. Went kayaking and snorkelling and saw sharks, turtles& stingrays whilst learning about the coral so it was a lovely experience. Had food at foxys bar both nights which was basic however delicious. Drinks were fairly priced too! The cherry on top of our stay was that I actually forgot some clothes in our room after our stay and I was emailed instantly and was able to collect next day. Beautiful resort and island
Solid place but I would definitely just suggest one or two days here. The summit is great and the views were tremendous. Breakfast is alright but the evening meal becomes a bit basic and they don’t know how to cook a steak unfortunately. Staff were very friendly though. Fitzroy Island Resort is a great place for a tropical getaway. The location is beautiful, offering easy access to clear waters, coral reefs, and sandy beaches. The resort is surrounded by nature, and the views are stunning. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, with most offering ocean or rainforest views. The facilities are good, including a pool, a bar, and an on-site restaurant. The food is decent, with a mix of casual and more formal dining options, though the menu can be limited. Activities like snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking are easily available, with equipment rentals right at the resort. The staff are friendly and helpful, making sure guests have everything they need to enjoy their stay. However, there are some downsides. The resort can feel a bit isolated, and the limited dining options mean you’ll rely heavily on the resort’s services, which can be expensive. Additionally, Wi-Fi connectivity is limited, which might be an issue for some. Also the market has no groceries whatsoever and is very overpriced. So if you want to cook something you best bring it with you on the ferry. Overall, Fitzroy Island Resort is a great place for those seeking a relaxing escape in nature, though it’s important to plan ahead for meals and entertainment.
The actually island is so beautiful and idyllic! The staff were all so friendly and this review is not a reflection on their reception team as they were lovely. I would just recommend visiting the island for a day and not booking to stay. It seems the resort hasn’t fully recovered from the cyclone last year with water damage, but they do need to provide some transparency on the condition of the rooms when you book. We actually cut our losses and left on the same day and didn’t stay in the accommodation we had booked. The resort itself is very run down, overpriced and unclean. Our room was dirty and absolutely reeked of mould. There was mould in the bathroom with no proper ventilation. There wasn’t a proper window in the room it was so dingy, it felt like a prison. Considering this room was near $300 per night this does not reflect the quality or cleanliness. I have stayed in multiple hostels in various countries, and this is by far the worst room conditions I have seen. The foxy bar area was really run down, and it was a shame to see food containers and cans littering the area around here, like it had been lying there for weeks. The food was very overpriced and the chicken burger we received was lukewarm and soggy. It really feels like the whole resort is a bit of a scam.
Beautiful island with fantastic views on the beach. Walking paths around the island are not well looked after with messy and died corals. Snorkelling and exploring the rain forest are most interesting in visiting this island. Service in the restaurant is not nice as expected but something in rush. This makes travellers feel not to be a guest. Improvement should be taken soon to gain back the value of a reef island.
The number of negative reviews posted online about the resort had me expecting to be very disappointed but on the contrary we were pleasantly surprised. From our boat ride on the Fitzroy Flyer to checkin and stay in our Island Suite, we were given great care. The staff were helpful, friendly and made a big effort. Our room was light, clean and comfortable. The restaurant food was good. The resort wasn’t perfect but it certainly exceeded our expectations. Rooms: We stayed in the Island Suite. It was clean, comfortable, spacious and light with a view over the beach. The fruit platter and sparkling wine on arrival was a lovely yummy touch. Food and drinks: We ate at Zephyrs three nights. The staff were helpful and friendly. While some had more hospitality experience than others, they were doing their best and delivering good service. While quality of meals varied from good to great, we enjoyed it all. Excellent breakfast buffet.
The resort itself is quite lovely – situated right at the seafront and the pool area again with sea view looks nice. The island is all in all a wonderful place to visit. Big minuses: - EVERYTHING at the resort costs extra. You do not get anything else than your room for the high room price. Examples: all food is ridiculously expensive on the island, snorkel costs 35 AUD per 24 hours bring your own!. Tap water is, surprisingly, for free. - A Happy Hour with 1-dollar discount on beer or 4-dollar discount on cocktails is not a happy hour, it is a sad hour. The pool bar is absolutely overpriced. - The pool is full of screaming kids for most of the days so it is not a pleasant place to hang out in. - If you still want to spend time by the pool, there are way too little sun beds so only if you go there very early in the morning, you might get one. People reserve them for the full day and don't stay for most of the day. The basic room is dark and small, again with nothing extra. It works for sleeping but you wouldn't want to hang out in there. The rooms with balconies look amazing but they also cost a lot more. One big disappointment is the ecotourism greenwashing. A resort cannot have ecotourism certificates on display all around the resort if you have disposable forks and knives in use. All in all, I don't think this ecotourism focus shows anywhere else than on the diplomas. Great plus are the board games, you get them from the reception for free!. The staff was very helpful and friendly during each interaction!
The ferry ride in was calm and the crew were a happy bunch of lads. Check in was smooth and we got our room early. We stayed in just the "budget" suite, with no beach views. It was comfortable but could do with some maintenance. Shower door hit the glass panel so couldn't close, floors were left very sandy not a huge deal but got annoying getting into bed and the walkways to the rooms were a bit rickety and soft in areas. Hotel staff were all lovely and the pool was nice, was a good 1 night stay and we enjoyed the hike to the summit it is steep! but could do with some maintenance to bring it up to the asking price.
What to say about this place? A lot of plusses but just as many minuses. We had read the reviews before coming so had kept our expectations low in anticipation. We had a beach cabin which was great. A few minor bathroom issues but nothing ruinous. Tidy and comfortable. It even had crockery and cutlery which was handy as we'd brought a lot of food as we weren't keen on resort feed only for 3 nights. Only a toaster and a kettle though, but decent sized bar fridge. Beautiful views and location in resort. Buffet breakfast at Zephyr restaurant was pretty good. We went expecting to be ordering from the menu but they have obviously decided to do buffet breakfast instead which suited us plenty. But uht milk for cereal is a bit lame. Dinner at zephyr is expensive and fine. My lamb was delicious, but my wife had the vegetarian ravioli which consisted of two small ravioli which was barely entree sized. Foxys bar is the only option for lunch and we didn't bother. Very run down. Amazing location over looking the water and great spot for a sunset drink, but pretty decrepit. Lots of trestle tables and broken chairs. Staff everywhere were ok. Mostly backpackers so not a lot of buy in. We didn't have great weather so the little annoying stuff stoof out a bit more for us. Pool was bloody cold but probably great in summer. It wouldn't take much to straighten the place up. It feels like they want to be a luxury resort but need to price themselves low enough to attract the hoi poloi like us. They cut some corners to make that happen, but then tossers like me write reviews like this. What can you do!?!? I hope they improve as it's a beautiful place. Snorkeling was great, especially with turtles. Nice walks to do. The landscaper was doing a great job tidying up the beach cabins. More of that i say. Good luck guys.
What a beautiful place! We loved the island uneven though we were unlucky with the weather. The staff were lovely, we enjoyed everyone we met especially the staff at the Sports Active Hub! Snorkelled two days in a row and saw 7 sea turtles- the reef off the beach is magical! Couldn’t recommend more! Butterfly Bungalows, were small and simple. They are located away from the main resort, 5-7 minute walk from the pool/main resort- so when it was raining, felt a lot harder with the kids! Wifi didn’t reach the bungalows. The space didn’t include a table inside, so which bad weather, there is only space to sit on beds. Recommend bringing fruit and fresh food! Was very expensive to buy every meal! Foxy’s was good, steak sandwich and burger was good. Greek salad was nice. Simple kids menu and didn’t suit my kids without a pasta option, lacked freshness. The restaurant was lovely, but once again, lacked kids menu options. The general store was very limited, lack of fresh food, bread, milk, lots of snack foods and sweets available.
I spent the most absolute horrible weekend ever after paying one of the most expensive rooms. Absolutely overpriced and the resort is falling apart. Since the cyclone destroyed half of the resort last year they haven’t spent a single dollar in fixing the resort. Rooms full of humidity, the floor is falling apart and they expect you to pay crazy prices in that hole they call resort. The restaurant is absolutely overpriced and the bar as well. The bald old man that works in the bar is absolutely rude and should not be facing costumers until he learns how to behave appropriately. The island is beautiful so I recommend to do one day visits to avoid the resort. There is not much to do after one day anyways
