Decided to stay on Fitzroy mid December while it was still quiet. Went on Website and booked a standby rate of $165.00 per couple including returns transfers. Thought it was a good deal but turned out not to be. Took the 11am boat over, had some lunch at Foxy's bar. Then went to ask if we could check in at 1pm but still not allowed until 2pm...The Island looked like 1/2 full so I'm assuming the room would have been ready but because we booked a cheaper deal they probably wouldn't let us in. How petty!. Went to check in at 2pm and went to the room.... stayed in there like 1/2 an hour and could not stand it any longer of the DAMP/MOULD AWFUL SMELL. COULD NOT BREATHE. Went to reception and got told it was a common smell due to something she mentioned. I asked for another room but was going to be only a couple doors down. Didn't want that smell again, so asked for another room away from that area which was a bigger room. I didn't want a big room just a room that you could breathe in with no Mould/Damp smell. Had to pay another $75.00/ripped off. Why do we have to pay extra for having a room that didn't smell. The island itself is lovely for snorkelling and walking etc. Foxy's bar n grill was nice but not open for breakfast which was disappointing. Also the staff in Foxy's were great except for a guy called JAKE which was very rude and horrible. He should not be working in a tourist environment.
