This is a fourth generation family owned and operated business, and certainly not a small player in the marketplace. Incredibly, their high quality product range, is available throughout Australia, and the World. So if you need products delivered to your door - these people will know exactly how to do it. Our builder suggested we check out their internal heritage style doors, which are great value @ $159 each (bonus as they are Aussie made too), other companies charge around $398. The building is huge, split into two levels, paint, stain, door & window hardware downstairs and the flooring, doors and heritage products upstairs. You will also notice how clean, detailed and organised each section is. They have a big car parking area outside the front entrance. Do be careful on Wellington Street as it is one way. I suggest approaching it from Mowbray Street with a right hand turn into Wellington. Service can be a bit slow for general home renovators, as I assume they are more geared towards dealing with experienced tradies, who know what they want. If you need a proactive salesperson, speak with Mike upstairs in the flooring & door department.

Service here is always dreadful, I don't know why on earth we returned, but when materials for our Queenslander renovation were needed, unaccountably, we found ourselves back at Finlayson's. Well, my family and I waited 25 long minutes for some assistance; we eventually attracted the attention of one somewhat irritated person who had no idea about what we wanted, or indeed why we would wish to spoil his day as a customer service consultant by actually serving customers; he sulkily went off to send someone else, but that someone never came. The entire time, maybe 12 expert staff were standing around talking to each other at the main counter, mostly about catalogues and Very Special Stock Orders - I know this because I stood near them for long enough to thoroughly follow the conversation, though nobody at all looked up from this important work to acknowledge us. At one point I got a silencing finger held to me to wait my turn; its owner did not deign to make eye contact with someone as lowly as I. Turning upon our collective heels, we left these experts to their important work and spent $2k that day alone at Brett's and Brass Shop Magin's. 100sqm of solid timber flooring? We'll find that somewhere else. We have a $500k renovation underway, not a cent will be going to these clowns.

Off a busy road be careful turning off. Good for restoring an old timber house or looking for specialist trim and hardware.
