YUM. Favorite breakfast spot in town so far. A bit hidden down an alley but once you see the sign you’re there. We arrived around 8am and there were only a few tables occupied but it quickly got very busy. Coffee and breakfast was delicious, I really enjoyed the pork sausages and eggs Benedict. Also get the scones! But make sure you’re hungry or share because they’re pretty big. Our server never came back to us once the food hit the table so we had to go up a few times for sauces and boxes, but it got busy quick so no worries. I definitely recommend this spot!
Place was great. Had a little trouble finding it as it is down an alley. Scones were delicious. Service was good. Had table water. Bathrooms were clean.
Hip breakfast eatery with indoor and outdoor seating options. I only came with one other person but they could easily sit larger groups. The flat whites were excellent! My partner got the Bacon Butty which he said was amazing, and particularly enjoyed the tomato relish.nnMy banana bread was very dry and I had to drink a lot of water to get it down. You can see in the photo how burnt the edges are! The sugar is covering even more of the burnt edges. I didn’t eat the edges but both pieces were incredibly dry. The chocolate spread. was really good and I used as much of that as I could but it couldn’t mask the dryness. I’m usually careful about reading reviews to make sure I don’t get something the place doesn’t really do well but all the reviews seemed to rave about the banana bread, so maybe it was an off day.nnWould definitely still recommend this place just maybe don’t get the banana bread!
I’ve always only been to Urban Grind for my cheese scones whenever I’m in Wanaka until a friend suggested Federal Diner cos he thinks they make better coffee. Although I’m not a coffee drinker, I am a scone lover.nnVerdict? The coffee is good but not consistent apparently BUT the cheese scone is the best one I’ve had. The crust of slightly burnt cheese just tastes better with each bite. And it was so moist and moorish on the inside, it didn’t even need butter!nnAlthough tucked away in an alley, you still get some view of the mountains, even from the inside. Ooh, and it is table service. With a smile. Definitely friendlier than the former.
Got the seafood chowder and wonderburg; both items are alright : food didn't blow us away but was satisfactory.
