Kind teachers, good location, friendly students! I was delighted to have the opportunity to study English here. Actually, the nationality of the students varies depending on the season, but it’s not the school’s problem but Sydney’s problem. Also, who you communicate with is up to you. I was able to make a lot of foreign friends!
I've been at ELC for about 6 months Sep - Mar, and I've had some of the best experiences of my life! First of all, the teachers are amazing... the teaching method is different from that of a traditional school! The teachers strive to engage you in every situation, making you learn vocabulary and grammar rules in a simple and fun way shout out to Jamie and Lauren - amazing! Not to mention the staff within the school, always kind and willing to solve any problem you may have and, if necessary, to help you with any other doubts or concerns about the city! Terence, the school director, has always helped me throughout my journey by providing useful advice to further improve my language skills and the results show! Alexandra was the one who helped me the most, initially with settling into a completely new city, and then with a series of other personal matters! With her, I've also built a beautiful friendship that I will always carry with me! However, the most beautiful thing about this experience at ELC has definitely been the opportunity to meet hundreds of other students from all over the world, many of whom I have formed real and unique relationships with that will last a lifetime! I believe this is indeed the major strength of this school!
“I’ve been studying at ELC for about 6 months. During the course period I’ve studied intensive English which is quite helpful for learning many English skills. All my teachers are fantastic, they have passion about teaching English. The school help us not only for education but also for orientating to city. There are many excursions on Fridays and Saturdays that school arrange it. I’m quite happy and satisfied to study at ELC which has quality education. I’d like to thank all my teachers and staff in the school.”
I spent 3 months at ELC, and it was 3 months with great meetings. ELC allowed me to meet people from all over the world and create real friendships. Concerning the classes, the teachers were always engaged and offered varied lessons. The school also organized lots of activities, both paid and free, like museum visits, outings to Kent Pub, Surf Camp, and Port Douglas. I'll always remember my time at ELC fondly, with all the wonderful people I met and the fun we had.
I’ve spent about 10 weeks at ELC attending the General English course, I have to say that all the staffs here are generally very nice and are always eager to help, the teachers here are extremely professional, I truly learned a lot during these 10 weeks here. Aside from the course, one of my favorite moments here at ELC is definitely the Wednesday activity held every week. During this activity, ELC students will gather at a local bar and spend time together. This is an excellent time to make new friends, and I truly made a lot of friends thanks to this activity.
I do recommend ELC to everyone trying to learn English in Australia. I’m a cuban who arrived to Australia 9 month ago with no English and I got 6.5 in IELTS academic just recently. That says a lot about the quality of teaching of this institution.
17years ago, I have been to ELC on the Kent st. I don't think ELC still has my database. But it was very nice experience for me. I miss my friends and tutors in ELC, But I don't have even one picture at all. If I have a chance to visit Sydney, I would love to visit ELC. Even if everyone I had met 17years ago left ELC.
The school is located just next to the Darling Harbour, in the center of Sydney. The location is fabulous ! The quality of the school is exceptionnal. The staff and teachers are so nice and they even are your friends. I highly recommend anyone who want to study in Sydney to go at ELC ! This is the school to be, this is the place to be ! Sydney is a fantastic city, you can do anything you want. You have the sea, the shopping center, the clubs and the nature at the same time. ELC will take care of you along your journey and helping you achieving your goals I can guarantee you. It's definitely a 5 stars rate !
After spending 6 weeks at this English college in Sydney, I can confidently recommend it to anyone serious about learning. While I’ve heard complaints from peers about other schools in Sydney – issues like irrelevant content, teacher changes every week, or subpar teaching methods – my experience here has been exceptional. The standard of education here is truly noteworthy. My teacher, Jayden, not only explains concepts thoroughly but also demonstrates great pedagogical skills, ensuring all students understand. He’s always patient and addresses every question. The staff here, especially Alex, are always kind and prompt in responding to queries. As a Chilean student, I’ve not only learned a lot but also overcome my initial hesitation in these short 6 weeks. Highly recommend! PS: It always depends on one’s personal motivation and the amount of effort put into studying to learn or improve their English
I can't speak to the TEFL course, but I strongly recommend avoiding the 'internships'. EDIT: I see they commented this has nothing to do with Sydney, but they organised the internship and were in Vietnam to get us started/were the ones we had to talk to if we had issues. So I think it still speaks to the organisation. For all the money you pay ELC your life as a teacher is not made any easier. Those of us placed in Hanoi were out of the house from 6am to 5.30pm including travel time 5 days a week, with only one morning or afternoon off on the 6th day. There was little teacher support, unlike what we were promised. You're not saved any of the organisation chaos that comes with working in Vietnam. Basically you pay a lot of money to work as a fully qualified, full-time teacher on minimal internship wages. If your aim is to become a TEFL teacher, go it alone. We met plenty of people who had, there's plenty of work around, and you'll be paid an amount that makes the chaos worth it plenty to eat/rent/get around etc. If your aim is to travel the country, save up before you go, you won't get a chance to see just about anything while you're working.
