I attempted to visit the museum today. However, it was closed for some sort of repairs. Unfortunately, the website lacks any information about the closure or the anticipated reopening. The operational change seems recent as other reviewers visited the museum a week ago.
Charged $10 just to view the ship the same as from the outside. So paid $10 to view a video and items inside . Very expensive . It should really be a donation seeing as though the ship itself is viewable from outside. You pay to go and see behind a fence again. If it was donation entry I'd not feel ripped and donated $5 which is appropriate amount for what it is.
A small museum dedicated to the preservation rather than restoration of the Edwin Fox ship. Museum features friendly staff, several panels displaying information about the ship and seafaring of the era, numerous nautical artefacts, as well as paintings and models of the ship in her prime.nnThe ship itself is located in a separate building, and was unfortunately closed to visitors during our visit. Despite this, we could easily examine the exterior of the ship. Well worth a look if you happen to be in Picton, my visit left me curious about the damage caused by ship worms.
It's a small museum, but packed with loads of things, including quite a few things for kids to do. The entrance and ship are wheelchair accessible, but I don't think the upstairs audio visual and displays are.nThere's lots of information, and quite interesting stories and history of this very well travelled ship.nUnfortunately it wasn't possible to go onto the ship the day we went, but apparently it is often open.nBut you can walk the length with good views of the hull, rudder and you can walk part of the way up the gangplank to view into the main deck area.nThere's a Lego area for kids to play, and some toys in most areas of the museum. And additionally, some dress up areas for photos.nWe only had a little time to explore we stayed about 30 minutes, but you could stay much longer than that.
Good place to visit. Just a bit small.
