Dukes Coffee Roasters

About

Dukes Coffee Roasters is a coffee company based in Melbourne, Australia. Our sole focus is the craft of roasting and brewing the best coffees in the world.

Story

Dukes Coffee Roasters is committed to sourcing and roasting the world's finest coffees 2008. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to roasting each batch of coffee with mastery and precision, providing Australia with the most consistent, delicious coffee available.

All of our coffees are ethically traded and sourced from individual farms or small cooperatives. Each lot of coffee we buy is traceable down to farm level, and where possible our preference is to purchase organically grown coffees.

We roast fresh daily in Melbourne on Loring Smart Roasters. The Loring is the most technically advanced roaster in production, and was designed from the ground up to be the most energy efficient roaster ever made.

Our roasting philosophy is centred around a need to forever improve, to relentlessly work towards the most enjoyable representation of a particular coffee.

The Dukes roastery in Melbourne produces beautiful, freshly roasted speciality coffee each day with an unmatched attention to detail. Each lot is carefully selected and then profiled, tweaked and cupped rigorously before being made available to you.

I've always wanted to try Dukes. Famous amongst the local coffee lovers and international travellers alike, Dukes doesn't miss its mark. Fresh coffee aromas flowing out the doors and on to the street, with an epically busy interior. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the wait was 2-4 mins. The coffee was fresh and served with a pleasant acidity with a sweet and chocolatey after taste. As you can see from the photos, there is a large selection of fresh pastry and other snacks, as well as the opportunity to purchase Dukes very own coffee blend. Come on in and enjoy what Dukes has to offer, but be ready for a very busy little cafe with a chance of no seating unless you're prepared to wait.
Glad that we got here on an ANZAC Saturday public holiday before the next busy period. We were able to sit at the last few bar stool on the bench after placing our order. Service was pretty efficient.nnThere were some selection of pastries and their coffee were good too.
Dukes Coffee Roasters continues to demonstrate why they are one of Melbourne’s most respected names in specialty coffee.nnI started with a piccolo made using their single origin, which was exceptionally clean and expressive. The flavour profile was clear and well-defined, allowing the origin characteristics to shine through without distraction. It reflected careful dialing-in and a deep respect for the coffee itself.nnI also had a latte using their seasonal blend. It was balanced, smooth, and structured beautifully for milk — rich without being heavy, and sweet without overpowering the espresso base. It showed thoughtful blending designed specifically for milk applications.nnTo fully experience their offering, I ordered a pour-over as well. The filter preparation highlighted their commitment to precision.nnThe cup was clean, transparent, and layered, reinforcing the quality of their organic beans and roasting approach.nnBeyond the coffee, the customer service stood out just as much. The team was genuinely welcoming and engaged in meaningful conversation, creating an atmosphere that felt both professional and relaxed. Their passion for coffee was evident, and it elevated the entire experience.nnDukes delivers excellence not only in the cup, but in the culture they create around coffee. Great service, great energy, and great coffee — exactly what defines Melbourne’s specialty scene.nnEvery cup tells a story.
Visited Dukes Coffee Roasters and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were warm and welcoming, always serving with a smile, and the coffee was expertly brewed. The coffee and cakes were both excellent in taste and quality.nnIt is understandably very popular, so the café can get quite crowded and there may be a wait for a table. The atmosphere is pleasant overall, though it can feel busy at peak times. If you are planning to dine in, it is best to allow a bit of extra time.nnA great spot for quality coffee, well worth the visit.
Home of Melbourne’s famed ‘magic coffee’. Tucked away on busy Flinders Lane, Duke’s is jammed with locals and tourist hankering for a coffee and boy do they make it strong it’s a super solid coffee, so I understand the hype. Don’t pass on the sweets, the kourabethes and almond cookies are fantastic nIt’s busy but the lines move quick, service is no nonsense and efficient keeping Melbournians and tourist fuelled up
