I had never felt like I belonged there since I started living in a student residence at Deakin. To say that my encounter was disappointing would be an understatement. The level of rudeness, unacceptable behavior, and complete lack of empathy toward international students was utterly appalling.Service: 1/5
Talking to rez staff for advice or assistance is often useless. Applied to stay in the same room for the upcoming leasing period despite giving in my application two weeks before my roomates who managed to get the same room accomodation . And I was shifted into a two bedroom shared. Not only do they not respect your room preferences when applying but the lack of a trimester 1 only lease shows that this business is only out to make money . Customer service and commun ication through their emailing system is virtually nonexistent.
I have stayed in a studio, a four-room shared, and a a six-bed shared apartment at Rez. During my stay at the studio room, the COVID caused numerous unexpected problems, but the support and services from the management was quite good - the only issue was that some room cleaners were rude. During the six-bed shared stay, I experienced one of my best times in Australia - mostly because of the friendly flatmates I had. The free events by Rez were amazing and something to wait for every week. The cleaning services were pretty good as well. Even better was the reception support - I remember the receptionists calling me every 9-10 hours to check on my health after I had caught a fever post-vaccination. It's even better now that the lockdown has subsided and more events are hosted every week. But remember that the location might be a bit off - only because it is far from the supermarkets and the city. Tram and bus stops are close so it is easy to travel - but again, the expenses of public travel seems to be on the rise, so probably not the right choice. Overall, a very lively place with good and friendly people to help you even at the middle of the night.
Amazing student accommodation, perfect for 1st year at uni.
Extremely unwelcoming environment, staff do not care for their residents in the slightest and often disregard serious situations such as mental health. Security guards that are there for our "protection" are more for intimidation not George and Angelique. They disregard government regulations that protect the health of those in lockdown and when the consequences of these decisions are brought to their attention they provide little to no solutions beyond providing the number to lifeline or offering snacks. Intimate partners that live two doors down cannot visit each other and people in studio apartments are not allowed to create single bubbles. Everyone I know that lives here are waiting for their leases to run out so that they can get as far away as possible, which is a big backfire for a business that only cares about the money they receive and not the people they receive it from. Would recommend other university residential services that put the health of their residents first such as Swinburne residency and Melbourne colleges.
Good room, cleaning and maintenance are good. There are lots of free food days and activities, and its a generaly positive enviroment. The internet is also very fast. It is also nice to live on campus and save time commuting. But -The commute time to the closest supermarket by public transport is normaly at least 20 minutes each way, 4 by car. -During my stay there was near constant construction works throuought the year working reasonable times. -The fire alarm regularly goes off, requireing the building to be evacuated, this is due to the over sensitive smoke detectors. -Its VERY expensive, and there are many other more reasonably priced places nearby.
My biggest problem is with the staff who are often very rude and unhelpful. As the first points of contact for stressed out students, I don't think they are doing a very good job of maintaining a welcoming and secure environment.Rooms: 3/5
Great accommodation. Clean and functional and so handy that it has a kitchenette. Only downside is the lack of shops within walking distance. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
The staff treat the residents like they are on a school camp, security guards come through the house unannounced to check whether you are breaking rules and have barely any leniency on rule breaking even if you weren't the person breaking the rules or if it was accidental. The security guard's George and Angelique is a legend.Rooms: 2/5
Great on campus facilities but fire alarms can be super troublesome and rent is on the higher side but great to meet people and socialise Recommended to anyone coming for first time & for international students
