Darwin Private Hospital is the only private hospital in the Northern Territory. We offer private Surgical, Medical, Obstetric, Cardiac and Rehabilitation services to the Northern Territory community.

This has nothing to do with the hospital itself, but is about their gift/flower shop. I've not been to the hospital, but after my interaction on the phone, it’s somewhere I’d never go to. I went to order flowers for one of my best friends who’s just had a baby at the hospital there. I was put through to the shop, and the rudest lady picked up the phone!! When I told her what I wanted she went WHAT??!! Then she proceeded to argue with “someone” without even ask me to wait on hold. At which point I hung the phone up. I didn't want her putting together flowers for my best friend who'd just had a baby. If this is her manner over the phone to a customer, then I can only image what her arrangements look like. Not cool. I'm not from Darwin so not sure if this is normal. I’d say not. It was totally off putting!!

We had an excellent experience with the delivery of our first baby. The room was sensational, the staff were wonderful, we could not have asked for a better experience. We would definitely recommend having a baby here. If we are still in Darwin for baby number 2 we are definitely coming back.

Stay away!! Far away!! Appalling experience. I feel I am lucky to have survived. I'm not completely sure I have survived. I'm certainly damaged. I was definitely treated as a second class citizen. I was in a private room at Darwin Private Hospital for a week and in that time the toilet was cleaned only once. The floor was washed only once. Dreadful standard of hygiene. Dreadful standard of staff training. There was only one chair for any visitor to use. There was no booklet of services available. I had absolutely no way of getting my personal clothing laundered and just had to hang on for the entire week. There was no way I could get a magazine to read. When I developed a fever the doctor, not my specialist, claimed it was because my husband had brought infection into my room. The same doctor told me to take a swab of my rectum, when actually it was to be taken from the vagina. She did not even have sufficient English to know the names of basic body parts!!! Thank goodness one of the nurses rescued me that time. Why is that doctor allowed near anyone at all? I was discharged from the hospital while unable to sit in a car to travel home. Nobody cared if I was going to a safe environment or not. I was unable to walk unassisted to the pharmacy to have my prescriptions filled. There was no offer of a wheelchair. Once home I was unable to walk from the vehicle to my front door unassisted. No attempt was made prior to discharge to enable me to access the available services so that shopping, cleaning, etc was possible. These services are provided through Commonwealth programs for all citizens 65 and older, but I was denied access by Darwin Private Hospital while I was a patient. I tried to complain but my complaints were ignored. I tried on six occasions and was repeatedly met with rudeness by the hospital admin staff. My complaints centre not on the nurses but on the management of this hospital. They are lazy and ignore patient welfare. Darwin Private Hospital is not a good place if you need care. You are putting yourself at risk the moment you walk through the door.
