Really solid place and good prices! The hot cakes w/ bacon are delicious and affordable the owner even threw in one extra for no extra charge, $11. The wedges $6 were also really good and a good portion and the Mochachino went nicely with the hotcakes.
Ah yes, the Dannevirke bakery. Tis the Silver award winner for its Steak and Cheese pies and I must declare, it is much worth the venture. A succulent formulae of pastry, quality meat with a pure beef gravy that is sure to slither within in your system. If ye are looking for a pie that is sure to grow tickle your pickle, look no further than the classic Dannevirke bakery.
Great food in a reasonable rate. Loved the iced coffee...
Very disappointing the mince pie hardly had any mince. The flat white and trim latte were over frothed and negative flavour
Mince & cheese pie was heavy and full of gravy. Shop was not very clean and the prices were crazy. $5 for a juice…?
Absolutely disgusting! My pie was so horrible and dry, it had clearly been reheated a million times over how many days! My partner couldn't even eat his sandwich as it had a funny taste, not to mention the filling was only at the centre, seems to be a common thing in bakeries these days, making it appear that it has a filling but once you get stuck in you realize it was only for the parts that are on show in the display cabinet. The sausage roll was very soft and undercooked. It angers me that people think its ok to sell food like this, they clearly don't care about the customers, only making a buck. VERY disappointing, hands down worse bakery of my life.
nice little bakery, indoor and outdoor dining. good value for money, nice mince and cheese pies!
Stopped in on our way north because it looked like a fast, cheap place to grab a quick lunch. My boyfriend lined up to order his lunch and I walked up the road to KFC to use the toilet, the cafe doesn't have one. I came back 10 to 15 minutes later, my boyfriend at a table with a number written on a napkin because they'd run out of numbers with only 5 tables having people at them. When I sat down there was a massive queue so I waited, hoping it would go down. 15 minutes later the queue was still huge so I gave in and joined it. 10 minutes later I order my milkshake, expensive at $4.50 for some syrup and milk, and sit down to find my boyfriend has only just been served his egg benedict. 20 minutes later he has finished his meal and has his plate cleared and I'm still waiting on my milkshake. I wait another 10 minutes and am about to ask for a refund when finally they carry over my milkshake. Over an hour for egg benedict and a milkshake with staff forgetting who ordered what and losing track of orders, meanwhile there's a 4 year old boy running around barefoot where the food is being prepared. Save yourself sometime and drive on to the next town.
Mum chose a custard cream cake which unfortunately was stale. I had a chicken kebab which was tasty. The coffee was quite good. Plenty of pies and cakes to choose from.
Fast service, good selection of traditional NZ cafe food. Average coffee. Chai Latte was good.
