This is a motor lodge, masquerading as a hotel, pretending to be a "resort". The rooms are clean and reasonably sized, but that's a low bar. The staff are friendly. I reckon if you have a clutch of children and want a discount way to keep them occupied, this will do. There's a pool and a playground. My partner and I stayed here in on a spur of the moment decision. We had stayed in Masterton the previous night at a wonderful bed and breakfast. The only afternoon train out of Masterton is at 3:40pm or some stupid thing so we decided to stay another night. I'm familiar with the Copthorne brand, it's usually dependable. We should have gone back to where we were. For a couple, this place is dire. It's too far from town to walk so once you check in, you're either committed, or you'll be driving. The "bar" is pathetic. There is no in-room entertainment system even. They loan out DVDs are reception but the list is almost entirely "family" movies. There is nothing in the surrounding but a four square, parking lots, a big paddock, and a closed down bar/restaurant, and kilometres of economically depressed suburban housing. The hotel does have an OK restaurant attached. The only redeeming quality about the place is that the 70s decor, long corridors, and remote feeling location reminds you somewhat of the shining.

A great stay. There were a few Out of Order signs around when we went into the pool area, spa pool was Out of Order but it was explained it was because it had been cleaned out first thing in the morning and was waiting to reach correct temperature. When we went into the activities room a lot of the machines were out of order but went back in the afternoon and they had been fixed. All the staff that we came across were professional and very helpful.

Always have a great stay here. Rooms are clean and tidy. Couldn't ask for better service from the staff.
