Clem's Chicken Shop

Just tried the hot chips as we read they were the best in Sydney. Make sure you ask for them fresh out of the fryer. We did and they were excellent! Lots of chicken salt, crunchy outside, soft and fluffy inside. Definitely worth a try so you can make your own verdict.

This place is a rare jewel of King Street. Disguised as a fast food chicken shop to the newbies of King Street, this place is actually one of the rocks of Newtown. Almost 40 years old Clem's is an institution. I even wear the T Shirt. Serving the best fresh roast chicken and chips, Clem's also has daily specials that include lasagna, moussaka, roast beef and roast vegetables. This is NOT just a chicken shop. Wholesome home baked dishes Greek twist? changed daily complement the already excellent roast chicken n chips. I travel from Canberra to Sydney for this food. Peter the owner had been there for decades and the certificates and awards show his contribution to the local community. A top bloke and a top team serving top, great value food. Don't be tempted just by the excellent chicken, the gems are found in other dishes cooked for the day. Like I said. I even wear the T Shirt. Or hat.

Went on a food adventure in Newtown and stumbled upon this place, ordered a huge schnitzel for $6.50 best value I've seen in my life and it was moist and crumbly don't expect extremely crunchy though. Highlight for me however was the $2 'small' gravy as you can see in the picture hand for size reference. Not too thick, it had a delicious flavour to it and I ended up having to drink the rest because their serving was so generous and it was that delicious

Loved the chicken, LOVED the sides. We had the 5 pieces fried chicken as well as their potato gratin + mushrooms. Will be revisiting to try their other options!

Get clems every week for my main meals being an interstate truck driver sometimes hard to get a good homemade meal so clems has been my go to week after week when I'm on the road the order I got today however was not something to rave about but the total denial from the staff member on the phone was even more disappointing three out of the five meals had only a tablespoon if that of one of the chosen vegetables that being the cauliflower bechmel Now I'm not saying I was expecting mountains of food but I was expecting consistency and none of that was evident in these meals This could happen in one of two ways 1/ running out of the actual dish then being to lazy to replenish the dish so burying it under the other vegetables hoping that no one notices 2/ putting in chicken first and trying to build a meal around it Either way what I recieved was totally unacceptable and although this was the first time it happened to me will be the last as I will never be back The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is only because I really enjoyed everything I got from clems up till today And only because of your staff members response which came across as she didn't care after trying to deny she actually put that much in its one thing to admit you got it wrong totally different to lie about it

My experience with that place has always been nothing less than great. The food is amazing, an extensive menu and a great salad bar. This place gets very busy and most times, there is a queue during lunch and dinner time. But I think it's worth the wait, which shouldn't be longer than 5 minutes. The staff are friendly, the prices are reasonable and the quality of food is amazing. Great as a takeaway option as there is only room for 4 - 5 people only to have their meals inside the restaurant.

This is coming from a person who loves food and used to be 190 kilos I have lost a lot of weight since: I have never had a piece of fried chicken this good in all my life, the spices are absolutely perfect, the chefs here know how to cook really well, they're also incredibly generous and if you go in they often give you free tastes of their new items. Please I urge you to go in and support this business, they deserve to be more popular than any of the other known chicken restaurants.

Always the Best and Good Quality! Deep fried chicken comes out fresh and hot..they don’t skimp on the Chips as well.

Love their fried chicken here. Have only ordered via Deliveroo/Uber but orders have always been prompt & still relatively warm by the time it arrives. The regular veggie pack isn’t very big so would recommend ordering the large. Would prefer if the chips were cooked that tad bit more so it’s more crispier though

Food here was exceptional, big portions, decent prices and lots of options. Service is very bare bones but they are busy and got the job done. I've walked by this place so many times and always gone with a "more interesting" option. This is now one of my favourite joints in Newtown.
