Story

China Lane is a stylish, yet relaxed dining experience in a funky inner city lane way with a 120 suspended bird cages adorned upon its entrance.

The shared menu is driven by Head Chef Kristian Vale. With his experience and obvious flair with Asian cuisine, Kristian has created a Modern Asian menu that draws influences from across the breadth of South East Asia.

The team at China Lane are guided by Simon Smallfield, who has extensive experience both in Australia and overseas. Our style of service is fast, yet professional, lending itself to both social and corporate diners alike.

China Lane is the perfect place for individual dining or large groups with banquet menus suited to all. We also have a Private Dining Room which can cater for up to 10 guests.



"Tucked within the sanctuary of Angel Place and set beneath the ‘forgotten songs’ birdcage installation. China Lane provides a serene and stylishly relaxed laneway setting for locals, corporates and visitors alike. The cuisine is modern Asian focusing on fresh, seasonal produce with traditional flavours and contemporary techniques. Kristian Vale has mastered the balance of spice, heat and flavour and presents his take on modern Asian cuisine. Location is in one of Sydney’s laneways near the Ivy. Always nice Asian fusion dishes. A bit like an Asian tapas. The salt and pepper prawns we’re truly amazing. Wine prices are reasonable in terms of acceptable mark up. Good quality food.
Fantastic dishes here and quality is consistent. The caramelised pork belly is delicious, no wonder it's so popular. Loved the Wagyu beef Massaman Curry, which melts in your mouth! The crispy pig's ears salad is beautiful. First time I went here with a friend, we had the set menu and everything on the menu was scrumptious!
Good tasting authentic Asian cuisine. Ordered take away as I was staying in the city for the night and it was highly recommended by the hotel staff I spoke to. While yes, the meal was good, it was a little more on the expensive side compared to my usual local Chinese takeaway. I did however appreciate and like the hanging birdcage installation in the lane way out front.
Came tonight with my niece. The waiter was personable and friendly .The food is excellent, as other reviews indicate .We loved the Duck Pancakes ,prawn dumplings, and the John Dory. We loved the ginger and date pudding with miso butter . Good cocktail choices .Food: 5/5
We had the banquet and they agreed to make some changes to accommodate some dietary requirements that we had. The food was simply fantastic. The atmosphere was great and the service was awesome. The flavours were out of this world I hope to visit again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available Dietary restrictions: Handled dietary requirements well and double checked without making assumptions
Food was top of the scale for its taste and quality. Service was excellent and the staff was amazingly helpful. Will keep comming and highly recommend.
The food was okay, the lady serving the table was ok but the people serving food was a bit unbelievable, pretty much throw the plates on to our table. Don't know what his problem was.Food: 3/5
Fantastic restaurant. Service impeccable. We turned up without a booking and were quickly seated despite the restaurant being very busy. We only had about 50 minutes before we needed to leave to go to the theatre. We told them this and they made sure we were well looked after to make sure this happened. Staff very attentive, took our dietary requirements into account, ensured all our meals were bought out in a fast fashion and so we got out right on time. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was hot and fresh and very tasty. Would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to everyone.
We decided to give this a go as my friend is vegetarian and had heard the veggie options were plentiful. They didn't disappoint! The veggie dumplings were the best I've ever had, and the tofu mains also delicious. We decided on dessert and the portions were so generous we left absolutely stuffed. Try the ginger and fig pudding! Lovely staff and a nice ambience to the place.
We ordered the banquet option at China Lane. Overall the food was good, but nothing mind blowing and a bit on the salty side. They also miscalculated the cost of our drinks, but fixed up their mistake quickly once we pointed that out. The lychee gin cocktail was the highlight of the night, yummy and went well with the food.
