New transfer student: teachers are sweet and helped me adjust around. The initial first inquiry and meeting did not give adequate knowledge of what to bring or prepare. I felt the principal could have done better in explaining how things worked around here; the explanation was very short and unhelpful. The other con I felt was that the library was interconnected. This meant primary school kids could access the same library as secondary students. I found this quite intrusive and annoying, the kids were very loud and distracting and the library is also unaccessible at random times. The rules are also not arbitrary. I asked the head staff of the senior teachers about whether or not students were allowed to wear makeup or fake tattoos, and they said no. Well, this apparently does not stand because there are a plethora of students wearing makeup around.
I've been going here for a few years now. Here are some things I've noticed: -Many teachers don't know how to manage rowdy classes, and students with obvious behavioural issues are rarely punished or helped. -Many facilities are pretty old and run down. For example, the science area has asbestos which has caused one of the rooms to be shut down for over a month. There have been many empty promises. The school claimed that they would monitor bathrooms to stop people from hanging out and vaping in them, yet there hasn't been much change since then. There are no clubs for those looking for a community. I've seen that other schools have clubs that bring the community together and give students a safe place. -Bullying is rare, yet whenever bullying is seen and reported, teachers and staff don't do much to resolve it. I've witnessed someone who has been bullied since mid-2023 to now. Despite numerous meetings with coordinators and the principal, it has only gotten worse.
This is an update from a new transfer secondary senior school student who has been here for more than 3 terms, with a staff experience recounted at the bottom: cons: Extremely small; found the lack of variety in buildings quite irksome and hated the library; it's perpetually closed at arbitrary times which makes its very inconvenient since I have to study. It's also interlinked with the primary school so you will get disturbances from the kids. If you're a secondary student who harbours a preference for quiet environments, this is not the place for you; there are very few places you will be able to spend time at in break times. The small population of students also limit the subject choices for VCE; the system is heavily dependent on the subject selection of students; if you're passionate about a certain niche subject, there's a high probability it may be unavailable, simply because there aren't enough students to make it viable. Locker and bathroom are in marginally poor conditions most of the time; specific students have not learnt etiquette and have used the bathrooms as a personal unkempt zoo, instead of a community space that caters for bodily needs. Vaping is a common issue and staff do a very poor job at regulating this. substitute teachers do a very poor job and never exert adequate authority over students. Rules are rarely followed and this is leads to undisciplined, unpunctual, unfitting and simpleton behaviour. Unfortunately, secondary students behave worse than primary school students at times which is unfortunate and shameful. Some faculties are disgusting and underdeveloped. As far as I am concerned, there are no heaters in the big gym; we had to sit several exams in the winter season and the lack of heat was an extraneous variable which negatively impacted our performance level. I just wished the staff were more exacting and consistent in their rules; I have inquired about many things and even though they affirmed that it wasn't allowed, no consequences were employed to regulate it---overt, obvious displays were not addressed. Poor school canteen---compared to my last experience at Nazareth college---this does not even look like a canteen; I was in disbelief when I first laid eyes on the shabby place; it resembled an abandoned prison yard, rather than a canteen. It's poorly maintained and there's only like 2 staff that execute lunch orders; waiting line is so arduous and inefficient. Designated lines are never followed; 'EPTOS' and 'cash' lines are always abused and mixed up; students cut in line all the time which is unfair. Pros: This tight-knit community helps those that enjoy strong support in academics and social endeavours. The staff are predominately kind from what I have experienced. Bullying is a rare sight here, and even if it occurs, quick action is taken to stop the endeavour. TLDR: not the best quality school; serious-mature secondary students ought to enrol in better environments. If you enjoy lenient and small environments, this is definitely the place. 30 August edit: Helped a new substitute teacher for our class; hearing her recount about the lack of professional guidance she had received when coming here was disheartening. She was given a map, a dead laptop with no charger, and no staff to help her. She was left in a state of distress and panic at not knowing how to navigate around. This poor conduct was unacceptable and I assumed responsibility and apologized on her behalf for the lack of professionalism received from the school. It is disgraceful that I, a student, had to assume responsibility and not the staff. I thought I was tripping when I did not receive the adequate debriefing from the school, but alas, it seems I was not alone; the the teacher also felt the debriefing provided was poorly executed. She mentioned they did not give her an introduction or tour at all; her skill at navigating the paper map was impressive. nevertheless, this is not right and I am deeply ashamed for this experience.
Everyone around you at this school says the n-word it's horrible, and I recommend Nazerath college instead.
K1 my son got leaked in school don’t recommend
I know some kids who go ‍ there thay love the school community cheers
My child has been bullied and the teachers do not care. They just disregarded what happened as it was a highly inappropriate problem.
Amazing school amazing teachers my daughters love and enjoying the school safe and more attention from teachers God bless you all
Terrible education institution. Teachers more interested in themselves. Rampant bullying and just reactive measures from staff. Stay away.
This school has been a fantastic support for my kids and myself. Thanks carwatha
