Calvary John James Hospital

About

Calvary John James Private Hospital in Deakin offers an extensive range of services including general medical, maternity, rehabilitation and surgery.

Story

Established in March 1970 and named after the late Dr. John James, a highly respected Canberra medical practitioner and surgeon. In 2006 the hospital became part of the Calvary group, founded by the Sisters of Little Company of Mary. Calvary John James Hospital is a Catholic not-for-profit organisation, investing its returns to improve and develop facilities, staff and services for the continuing benefit of the community.

Calvary John James Hospital provides surgical and medical services and is the only private maternity unit on the south side of Canberra and we also provide a special care nursery. We have the only purpose built private rehabilitation unit in the ACT.

The Calvary John James site covers 4 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens which provide a sanctuary to patients and visitors alike.

In reply to Aj FAJ, the reason that Calvary John James Hospital, like many other establishments throughout Canberra, has been forced to install paid parking is certainly not for any gain. The reason is that people working in places like the Woden Town Centre would drive to the hospital, park their cars all day for free and then bus it to work. For patrons of the hospital and medical centre, who wanted to park there legitimately, were finding it harder and harder to find a park. Now when I visit the hospital or my specialist, I can arrive and not worry about finding a park. The only thing I will say is that I would prefer that they issued parking tickets upon arrival, and then payments be made as patrons were leaving, as at times it is difficult to know what amount of time will be needed at appointments etc,. I was most offended by the remarks made by Aj FAJ about the hospital management and staff as they are most offensive and totally untrue. Paid parking was forced onto the hospital and not a decision that was easy to make.

Avoid having anything to do with this hospital. 24hr (!) Wilson parking. It says volumes about the ethics of the management and their respect for customers and staff when they enforce such a policy, particularly through a company renowned for bullying customers to pay inappropriate 'fines', accused of human rights abuses in Nauru and Manus and outed in the Panama Papers.

Calvary John James is a private hospital and so you pay for parking - it is also in a reasonably intensely officed part of town, so the charging tends to keep the car parks available for visitors rather than workers from the surrounding businesses. On the upside you get excellent care, lovely staff, a maximum of one other person sharing your room, carpeted wards, superior food - but it is not a Public Hospital (ie 100% covered by Medicare) so check your Health Insurance before selecting it.

Everything you would expect from a hospital, nice staff. Totally disgusted at the fact there is pay parking here.
