Line ball. Two stars for the pizza, but bumped up to three stars (following protest from a family member) because it's clearly delivering what the regular clients want. In fairness, the Cafe on Bourke isn't pretending to be something it's not. We ordered a couple of pizzas. They were large, generous, very fairly priced, and not terrible . . . but still didn't rise to the level of (say) Pizza Hut. The flavour just wasn't there. I think the main shortcomings were the lack of a good tomato sauce, and the use of some fairly generic commercial bought-by-the-ten-kilo-bag pizza toppings. Again, not outright terrible, just sort of stuck in the 1980s. And if that's the standard for pizza, I think it's safe to assume it's the standard for everything else. The venue's nothing special. Customer service, fine. Prompt and courteous. We occasionally pass by and it's clear they've found their clientelle, and vice versa. Not really my kind of place, but if you're not a fussy eater and are looking for a cheap-and-cheerful Italian joint at this end of the city, Cafe on Bourke may be your place. From the reviews, plenty of people clearly agree.

This place was an end to a big day at a festival and I was utterly disappointed, we were greeted by a high pitch buzz which continued though out our meal. We ordered two pastas and the nachos all with not one item freshly made....i felt as though everything was store bought and from jars. We ate a few bites of our dishes then felt ill so quickly paid the bill at left. We both continued to be unwell for a long duration after the 'meal' we had.
