What a find! This place is an absolute gem The lightest fluffiest wood-fired breads I’ve ever tasted and they are $1 for two. The mana’ish lamb will blow your mind - a light soft flatbread with minced seasoned lamb with what I think are tomatoes and onions - it has the most beautiful delicate yet rich flavours which are perfectly balanced. The falafel is crispy yet so soft inside - served piping hot. My favourite though is the Dolma - soft rice and spices made with beautiful olive oil and vinegars. The vine leaves are lush. The hummus is a little smooth for my liking but it’s the Lebanese style. You can get gorgeous Turkish coffee here too. This really is the best Lebanese food I’ve ever tasted. The cafe itself is humble - canteen style with local community feel and the staff are nice. It’s spotlessly clean and they have little touches like iced water and napkins on the table which I love. Everything is fresh and hand made. They also have a huge range of sweets, pastries and Baklawa of course! It’s my new favourite eatery on all of Auckland. The one star reviews I’ve read are all from people who come here and order westernised English food why? or rude people who are impatient and misunderstand the style of café. Ignore them and check this place out.
Not recommended and extremely disappointing, I wasted my money and time with family..n- cafe was not busy.n- not enough staff to clean, serve, take orders and cook.n- they took a lot of time to serve and most importantly person serving asked what I ordered when she almost got the food trolley near to our table.n- food absolutely disappointing.n- coffee we ordered was not warm to have it.n- when I went for second order, person taking kept me waiting while she entered one of item the ordered as she received phone order.n- it took a while for the second order to come and forgot to serve us extra bread, I had to remind them when we left our tables.n- glasses, forks, spoons, plates, knifes where not washed well. We had to change it.n- they could not accommodate big family, we had to arrange tables and chairs as serving female panicked.n- I had to give one star as unable to proceed with my review and they even don’t deserve it.n- I wasted my $160 for 7 people.n- they used same gloves to clean tables and serve food.
We got the buffet and it was ALL delicious. Seriously, every dish I tried was so good. Loved the chicken curry and the green beans in the tomato sauce. Baklava and the other rice pudding unsure of correct name for it dessert were soooo yum too. Really reasonable price for delicious and warming food that really tastes like it’s been made with love! Can’t wait to come back
If you want biscuits, keep in mind that the biscuit box is very heavy. Its sides are already double-layered, and when you close the box, there’s an additional flap attached to the top part, which makes the side triple-layered. I haven’t seen any box like that.nThen, when I went there, only the large 1 kg boxes were available, while I only needed half a kg. I don’t want to pay for such a thick box on the price of biscuits which is not a very good value for money.
We went to Baklava Cafe on Stoddard Road on a Friday evening. Initially we wanted to have à la carte but they only had buffet on that day. They had a good spread of dishes varying from hummus, lamb Mandhi, grilled chicken, salad and desserts.nnAll of the dishes were good and filling. They charged about 30$ per person for the buffet . One suggestion I would like to give to their management is to keep a few doors of the restaurant closed as it is chilly outside.nnThe food started to get cold by the time we sad down to have dinner. Other than that everything was fine. The staff were very friendly and the service was great!nnThey had plenty of seating and it is a good place to go with friends and family to enjoy authentic Mediterranean food.
