Beer tasted good and food was delicious. What I liked most is the warm and friendly atmosphere. Families can chat and kids can play around. A perfect place for family gathering.
3.5 starsnWith natural light and bush views from the top of the split level dining room, it pays to dine with fewer people at The Austrian Club to avoid the long tables on the lower floor. Plus it’s a shorter walk to both the volunteer-run bar and the Hof Kuchl kitchen where dirndl-clad lasses will take your food order. The Austrian experience actually begins before you even walk in the front door into the large hall, festooned with ribbons in the colours of the national flag, with Alpine folk music blaring from the white wood-lined building.nnLike most clubs, the meals here are sized so you don’t really need to order an entree and main, but a warm Bavarian pretzel $6 with Lurpak butter was hard to pass up. The Weltenburger Kloster Pils $13 is both citrus-crisp and bready, so suits the pretzel and the cheesy kräuterbrot mit käse $6. There’s also a bright red Meggy sour cherry ale $7 but to enjoy it you have to like marzipan. The country’s indigenous grape, Grüner Veltliner, is presented from three different makers, all for fewer than forty bucks a bottle. The Lenz Moser Grüner Veltliner $35/litre is also available by the glass $9.nnFor the main event, it’s hard to go past the hausplatte $33—their take on an Austrian farmers’ plate—because it allows you to sample across thick slices of roast pork, kassler smoked pork loin and bratwurst. It’s not the prettiest plate I’ve ever eaten, but the plump, moist bread dumplings are among the best I’ve tried. Sauerkraut and a seven-hour gravy to make it into a cohesive meal. Jägerschnitzel met bratkartoffeln und salat $29.50 gives you two big slabs of tightly crumbed chicken schnitzel sitting under a cream-heavy mushroom sauce with golden spuds and salad. They’re a bit thin and dry, but overall you can expect a hearty feed with cheap drinks and Austrian language wafting over from neighbouring tables.
The best proper schnitzels in Sydney. Delicious traditional Austrian food. I also love the Apple strudel for dessert.
The atmosphere was incredibly comfortable, creating an authentic Austrian environment that really added to the charm of the meal. The staff were very friendly. The beer was served at the perfect temperature, which complemented the excellent food. Everything was above average, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality offered. Highly recommend for a great dining experience!
Totally a great experience. A great authentic meal a great selection of again authentic beer. Welcoming atmosphere for adults and kids. We had our friends group Xmas get together and thoroughly loved it.
