Attica

Story

Attica is a fine-dining restaurant in Melbourne, Australia, owned and operated by Ben Shewry. It has won several awards in Australia, and has been included in The World's 50 Best Restaurants since 2010. Its current position on the list places it as the top restaurant in Australia. The restaurant was opened by Dr David Maccora (an emergency doctor at Malvern's Cabrini Hospital) and his wife Helen, in a converted suburban bank building. After two chefs failed to attract sufficient patronage at the restaurant the Maccoras employed Ben Shewry (formerly at St Kilda's Circa) in 2005, giving him full creative control of the menu. In January 2015 the Maccoras sold the restaurant to Shewry.

Attica is more of an experience than a dinner. Everything is carefully curated and considered, even to the smallest details that shouldn’t matter. The food is incredible and absurdly creative, I loved everything. However, I was honestly blown away by the service and the atmosphere, it really is the best of the best.
9 Nov 2024nnThis is a restaurant that has been in our to-go list for quite some time and we decided to book a dinner session for Andrew’s birthday. All of the dishes were presented beautifully though we felt that it was a hit & miss experience.nnSome dishes didn’t really shine in our opinion, like the mushroom shaped dish, the soup poured with teapot, and the fish ceviche shaped as the australian continent it was a bit fishy to my liking.nnHowever, some were definitely extraordinary and memorable like the crocodile taco-like dish, the fresh crab pie, and the kangaroo skewers.nnThe desserts were all excellent, the service was top-notch though the ambience was a bit confusing casual yet fine dining at the same time.nnOverall, we enjoyed our meals but it may be a once in a lifetime visit for us as the price tag was quite up there too.
I can definitely understand how this place is such a fine dining staple.nnDeceptively casual inside and out but with intelligent and delicious Australian dining.nnThe little move during the night was very unique and fun.nnStaff were super gracious and friendly.nnDesserts were a rare highlightnnOverall awesome night, definitely recommend!
Very interesting dining experience. It was fun to try something different. I ate things I either didn’t know existed or never thought I would. Everything had 100% effort put into it and it has been one of our most memorable fine dining experiences so far. Very cool/chic ambience. Excellent acoustics made for an intimate and cosy feel. Pretty special really. All staff were exceptional
I had the pleasure of dining in multiple places being rated with stars by Gault&Millaut overseas. I would not rate Attica much different. The service and orchestration in combination with the knowledgeable staff make it a very enjoyable and short while encounter, combined with delicious food and wine. Highly recommended!
