Story

Attica is a fine-dining restaurant in Melbourne, Australia, owned and operated by Ben Shewry. It has won several awards in Australia, and has been included in The World's 50 Best Restaurants since 2010. Its current position on the list places it as the top restaurant in Australia.The restaurant was opened by Dr David Maccora (an emergency doctor at Malvern's Cabrini Hospital) and his wife Helen, in a converted suburban bank building. After two chefs failed to attract sufficient patronage at the restaurant the Maccoras employed Ben Shewry (formerly at St Kilda's Circa) in 2005, giving him full creative control of the menu. In January 2015 the Maccoras sold the restaurant to Shewry.

I can definitely understand how this place is such a fine dining staple.nnDeceptively casual inside and out but with intelligent and delicious Australian dining.nnThe little move during the night was very unique and fun.nnStaff were super gracious and friendly.nnDesserts were a rare highlightnnOverall awesome night, definitely recommend!
Been here a few times now and their menu just keeps getting better..nStaff's super friendly and the wine list is very extensive. Would highly recommend the pairing with your 11 course meal.
We came to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary, and right after the dinner, I have to admit I had contradictory thoughts about the 11 course experience.nnWell, it's been almost a month, and believe it or not, I'm still thinking about that dinner!nnThe environment didn't feel too luxurious. However, it gave you good vibes as the hospitality was something special.nnThey split the dinner in 2 different locations within the restaurant, helping us spending the time there, having fun and keeping on tasting their offerings!nnThere was a male caucasian waiter in particular that really stood out. His storytelling was whimsical and informative, ending up making this experience superb.nnThe food was great. Surely, the chef had challenges bringing to life such a menu, and it really tasted great overall.nnSo why did I hesitated on making this review? One particular ingredient almost made me give up: The ants.nnThe ingredient itself wasn't the issue. The scent was really pungent, although on taste didn't impact too much. My critic goes to the consistency of adding the ants on several dishes to the point I had to abandon the desert that looked fantastic, but my nose couldn't take it anymore almost 30% of the dishes had them.nnI'm more of a traditional diner, and the chef made me realise how many more ingredients I have to discover and try!nnI don't punish their incredible work as you could tell that all the clients were having a wonderful time, and most importantly, the food preparation was perfectly in line with their philosophy of bringing only Australian ingredients to the table.nnThis experience will be something to treasure and share for a long time until my next visit! Oh yes, I want to see what they have to offer next!
Beautiful and amazing dining experience with a pairing drink to your tasting menu in various enjoyable settings!nWe had an alcoholic beverage pairing and 50/50 options beverage pairing for our group. Both alcoholic and homemade drinks pairing were superb! The drink worked so well with the tasting menu and made both food and drinks taste even better together!nThe team at Attica was super professional and attentive! Especially James and Jess who looked after our table. They were very friendly, patient, and very good at their job of presenting the foods and drinks!nDefinitely a recommend dining experience if you have a chance to go.
This restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with high-quality ingredients. The preparation and execution of the dishes are clearly labour-intensive and meticulous.nnThe staff were outstanding. Everyone involved in our service was wonderful and attentive.nnMy review reflects my personal preferences and does not diminish the high quality of the dishes served.nnI particularly enjoyed the marron dish and the tasting plate with the emu parfait. The kangaroo skewer was also excellent, and the dessert dishes were delightful.nnWhile some of the other dishes weren't to my taste, I can appreciate the effort and craftsmanship that went into them.nnThe food was generous, and the experience was well worth the wait.nnThanks to the team for a great experience.
