Unethical Cancellation/business practicesnnAfter a flight cancellation in Gold Coast, Aus. I informed this Christchurch hotel and my travel provider that I would not be able to checkin today as planned. The front desk manager said that it was too late to cancel it and I would be charged anyway. When I asked if I could change my reservation to one week hence, I was told that they wouldn’t do that and I could rebook as usual if I wanted. No fair resolution was offered.nnCoincidentally, I had a reservation for the same hotel for the following night but through a different travel provider. Shortly after getting off the above phone call, received an email from Birches saying that I need to call them regarding my credit card validation. Since I had to now rebook a new flight and a new hotel on Gold Coast for tonight, this was a low priority call. After spending considerable time rearranging all me travel plans, I Did not call Birches Hotel back as it was very late in Christchurch. When I awoke very early the next morning to call, I had received four emails telling me that my booking was cancelled.nnI again called the hotel and the duty manager who was very difficult to understand due to broken English would not listen to my explanation or offer any kind of resolution. It seemed that the most important thing was the statement in the fine print that I had a 24 hour time limit to call. And since this had expired there was nothing he could would do.nnImportantly, in both cases, the hotel room in question was listed on the various booking sites as ‘available’ at a rate of nearly 3 times the price I paid. It became that This hotel property was simply playing a game to upsell my room at current market prices. This experience highlighted the UNETHICAL practices of the owners and managers of this property. Suggest others take notice when choosing hotels in Christchurch.
Stayed in room 10 for 3 nights and received lots of bites from bed bugs. I told the manager he said they came from Europe last year. Nice.....
An absolutely outstanding experience. Great service from Brian & the housekeeping team, who were exceedingly helpful to us from start to finish. The room was pristine, and very well equipped for its' size. All in all, this hotel shows the difference that great management & staff can make to a business. Totally top drawer!! :
Very clean unit. Slightly dated decor but absolutely fine. We made use of the airport shuttle and appreciated the free use of washing machine, a rarity these days. Friendly service, would definitely stay here again. Also handy location.
Flew our while family into Christchurch from Brisbane on a late flight. We had confirmed via phonecall before leaving Australia that our accommodation would be ready. We were advised that a key to our room would be placed in the lockbox.nTurned up at 2am, found a key.nMy husband opened the ranch slider and saw someone had a cellphone on the table. Soon after a very surprised lady followed out and asked what we were doing. We returned to the locked office area where there was two emergency cellphone numbers to call.nBOTH.... were turned off!!nWe had children overdue for bed and nowhere to rest our heads.nDONT STAY HERE!
