I recently hired a car from Abell Rentals as needed to travel with my parents and my car in New Zealand was too small.  At present I live in the USA and visit New Zealand for holidays. For me hiring a car in NZ was a different but good experience. When I hire in the USA I am given the keys and the number to the parking area to find the car. I was most impressed by the  manner in which I was treated at Abell Rental.  Not only were the staff very personable but also very professional.  They went out of their way to check the car was comfortable for my parents and myself. It was easy  to drive and to top it off the  price was very affordable and  there were no hidden costs.  Thanks for making this an easy hire.

Concerned about servicing and maintainance of rental vehicles. We had a pretty poor experience with Abell rentals, made worse by the fact that we are yet to get a response from the director after returning the vehicle. 

We hired a toyota hiace mini van. We had booked to pick up at 9am. We picked up at 11am and had to wait for the van to be cleaned.  The van was not nice to drive. Concered about how bad the van was pulling to the left we checked the tires. We found a split in the tire and alerted Abell. As we were on a tight schedule with a venue booked for early afternoon, we drove the van. Abell drove out a replacement vehicle to swap over. The van that was the replacement was out of diesel kms by 1000km. Concerning as what else is being over looked at this car rental company. Are these vehicles  properly checked? On returning the van we got a $30 dollar discount and were made to feel like it was our fault for driving the van once we saw the split. We should have never been in that situation because it was only after informed the company of our concerns that they acted. Why should people who book rental cars be put in a position whereby their safety could be compromised. Would recommend paying a bit more for a better rental else wear.
