Finally ate here after hearing all the hype and it definitely exceeded expectations! Highly recommended. Omurice and curry must try. It's really good Just a bit sad is no more cream puff.Food: 5/5
This place was recommended to me by my colleague and it was a pretty good recommendation. The restaurant isn't very large but the turnover is pretty good so you should be OK to rock up. I ordered the takoyaki, which I did like. It had the flavours that I expected so was pleasantly surprised. My colleague recommended that we order the gozen and I opted for the pork katsu. I did enjoy it taste wise but I feel like the meat needed to be sliced as they were very large pieces to bite into. Great location and staff were polite and helpful. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.
I don't remember how many times I've dined at this restaurant, but the quality of the food is still top-notch. The Karaage chicken is crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and the creamy sauce enhances the taste. I highly recommend the omurice, where the rice is steamed with sauce and ham, making it a perfect fit for the Eastern palate. Moreover, the beautiful waitresses provided excellent service :
What we ordered: - Chicken katsu gozen $16 - Miso katsu gozen pork loin $16 - Omurice small $14 - Red bean, sweet soy, soy bean dango $2.6 per piece I was so excited to find a place that sells omurice and dango and I was definitely not disappointed. Every dish was really good and definitely really affordable for the amount of food we got. Both of the gozens that we got were really great. The chicken katsu was not dry at all and the coating was super crispy, even when we ate the leftovers three hours later! The sauces that they came with were also super flavourful, and the dish was complimented really well with the fresh cabbage and potato salad. The miso katsu gozen was also really good. It's definitely a bit salty, hence the rice on the side, but the sauce was super thick and nutty and just went so well with the deep fried pork. The omurice was good but definitely not my favourite. It was a lot of fun to try after hearing so much about it but I think my expectations were just set too high after watching a bunch of chefs making it. Definitely not the same story as the dango though; I've been meaning to try it for such a long time and it was definitely my favourite part of the meal. I got one of each flavour and they were all so so good. The dango is so chewy and fun to eat and I loved absolutely every flavour. The sweet soy definitely isn't for everyone I personally loved it but the soy bean and red bean were pretty classic flavours for anyone looking to try it out. I'd go back just for the dango, it's just such a fun dish to eat!
The salmon and octopus balls were of reasonable quality, but the salmon wasn't cooked well, and neither was the rice, with the rocket salad being inedible. Customer service was excellent - friendly staff and hardly any wait time for food, but I won't be coming back.
Cute little authentic Japanese restaurant with friendly employees. The food was spot on as if we were in Japan! I'd definitely eat here again if ever visiting Auckland
OMU RICE - A must have dish here. I did not think much of this place, as alot of the other dishes were similar to other places but at a higher price. BUT I saw that many people were ordering this Omu rice. Omu rice is like a savoury fried rice that is covered up by this moist omelette on top. Served with some gravy like sauce next to it. I ordered the large size and it was very filling. The staff were friendly and the food was delivered to the table timely. Restaurant was cute with Japanese touches throughout the place. I will be back again for the Omu rice! Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly food would be any of the Katsu series and they would love the omu rice too. Parking: Best to park at Wilson carpark Wheelchair accessibility: Narrow hall way and one step entry into the restaurant.
Got pork loin katsu gozen. Taste: 7.1/10 Food at Yoshizawa has definitely gotten better than before, could possibly due to their menu change. The service and pricing is pretty good as the staff are pretty friendly and the value of the meal is good. The katsu here has gotten better but there are potential improvements with their katsu. 1. Batter coating falling off this is likely due to the excess moisture coming out as steam while being fried. The moisture drawn out after the salt seasoning could be the issue or the cut size of the loin could be the issue. A thinner piece of meat or a thinned out meat could be used for this. The meat could be dried better before applying the batter to avoid access steam too. 2. There is a very subtle gamey flavour of pork. Likely due to the quality of the cut or the way it’s handled seasoning, storage before cooking. But overall still pretty good place to eat, especially alone
We've been getting takeaways from here for a while as it's one of the best authentic Japanese places to eat in town and it's hard to get a seat as it's always busy but lately have noticed the size and quality has gone down. I get that business is tough since covid, with no staff, inflation etc but this is probably the last time we'll get takeaways from here. They've changed the pickles to the cheap pink sushi ginger, chicken katsu was a fave but it's now 90% crumb and rest is really thin chicken, and lastly the tofu salad used to come in a bowl that contained a good amount for $9. But this time either they ran out of containers or they're half asleep - the salad was in a sauce/condiment container? And still charged the same price? Really?? Wasn't impressed and will look elsewhere for our next Japanese feed.
Probably my favorite restaurant of all time. Amazing food, can't go wrong with anything you pick. 100% would recommend everyone to try it, you will not regret it. Have a look at the pictures if the food and you won't need convincing.
