Stayed in a dormitory room. Beds were super comfortable. Had to walk outside to the communal bathrooms/showers, which wasn’t a big deal just something to be mindful of with some rooms. Nice kitchen area. Friendly reception. Price was standard. Located on a quiet street blocks from supermarket and parks. Recommend.
GO GET THE MOTELnThe building was 160years old. All noise go through the wall. The owner was cooking dinner next to us. I try to ask a little noise down. But answer was GO GET MOTEL!!!nThere was an event at Westcoast. I couldn't find the motel so I booked YHA because my friend was hospitalized.nIf you are ok with all sort of noise, I think this place is ok. But if you are sensitive with noise, you better try other place. I could not sleep first night. I had to wake up every hour by the noise baby cried.nLucky second day I did sleep. But I couldn't enjoy stay at YHA.nI traveled so far 45countries and I have a experience stay at 5star hotel to India. I normally leave only good feedback but this time I decided to leave negative for other tourist.nPlease remember this place is 160years old. All noise travel.
BEST HOSTEL we have stayed in during our four month trip to NZ! Staff is helpful and kind, facilities are great big, clean kitchen, big outside area and plenty of space inside in the lounge area. The only con is that the hostel is in Westport, which is one of the most boring places in NZ we have visited..
Impressed by the standard for the price. The building is nice and the interior is cozy since it is a quite older design inside. Quality of the private room was good maybe a little to tight to fit two backpacks although the public areas such as kitchen and living room were very fresh at our visit. If we come back to NZ in the future I would definitely revisit this accommodation.
Such a beautiful stately building, would have been a mansion in the day and remains in condition. Rooms were clean, simple, secure as were bath and kitchen area.
