Walawwa - Auckland

We came by for a lateish dinner after playing futsal nearby since it was now of the few places open on a Tuesday night. It is located on Basin View Lane, just off Queens Road. The menu looked quite interesting and we ordered a few things to share. We did ask for mild since there were some people who weren't a fan of spicy food. Most of the items came out spicy. I thought the level was ok though. Out of all the items, the kottu rotti was the most interesting since I hadn't come across something like it before. It was almost like a noodle dish with the roti cut into strips with the meat and sauce all over. It was quite tasty and the spiciest of the lot. Their curries were also quite nice, particularly the potato curry with the flavoursome curry. The biriyani was a pleasant surprise since it came out with fried chicken and deep fried egg. The string hoppers were also quite interesting. We had the lamb curry and it also had a lentil curry with it, both tasty and a little spicy, I thought the food was quite flavoursome and the curries had different flavours which were nice. It was also spicy so probably not the best place for the spicey adverse.

Might not be ideal for people like me that are not good with spiciness. All the dishes tasted good though. I'd recommend the biryani, string hopper and yellow curry.

In an unassuming location right across a Sri Lankan grocery store, but amazing food and the lady there had brilliant recommendations for our group who needed some suggestions to get the best experience. The kottu roti, fish curry and egg hoppers made for an unforgettable food experience that we could hardly walk away from. Already planning our next trip back there.

Hands down the best in town!! I’ve been going to Walawwa for almost 3 years and i’m loving their food. Tried their cheese roast Chicken kottu for the first time yesterday and it was delicious. For the record, It’s my new favourite! “Quality food, Big portions, Friendly staff” Highly Recommended!!!!

Visited Walawwa twice so far, our new favorite eatery in Panmure so far. Staff is very friendly which is a big plus. Heaps of options to try. Chicken curry with a couple of vegetable preparation on the side is a must try... love the heat in their curry. String hoppers with curry was also pretty good. Loved their Lumpraice hope I spelt it right. Massive portion size for someone with average appetite so that's a plus. Good pricing and good quantity as well. Can't wait to visit again. Edit 1: Deviled chicken fried rice is out of the world amazing. It has a Chinese influence on it stir fry veggies in sauce with fried rice but the chicken preparation is unique. The chicken leg was on the drier side and I'm not complaining as it went well texture-wise. It's my new favorite now. Edit 2: Kottu roti with roast chicken is mind blowing. And when they spicy, they mean it...at least my Indian taste buds found it real hot and in a good way. Love it.

Awesome Sri Lankan cuisine!! Tried their Devilled chicken , chicken curry , chicken kottu roti, lamb curry, fish curry, crab , chicken and fish Lamprais includes rices with spices, chicken, cutlet, egg, white string hopper idiappam, caramel custard !! Delicious food and great service

The food was well prepared and enjoyed some authentic Sri Lankan food after a very long time. Compliments to the chef and the staff. Loved the food we ordered.

Popped in close to closing time and got great service. The flavours were great different take on a curry than accustomed to, lighter and more fragrant. The falooda was resplendent and the menu was expansive. Delicious!

Friendly & thoughtful service, the devilled chicken is sooooooo freaking yum and the kottu roti was good! Nice ambience, defs coming back

We were a group of around 10 people, went there to have lunch. The place is off the main Panmure street and a bit tricky to find. The Seri lankan foods we ordered were tasty. Service was okay, items arrived a bit out of order. For example the desserts were the first thing that arrived on tables.
