I absolutely love this place. It is not the most fashionable or the smartest and some root was definitely need a bit of a facelift but the location is fabulous, there is a lovely outdoor hot pool where you are just looking at trees and hearing the birds sing. I have been coming here for years and the staff are always friendly and approachable. You soon get to know when there are specials and deals available which are regular and generous. As I live within 2 hours away I think this is a perfect weekend or midweek getaway place. Only about a 10 minute drive from Taupo on a route which is quite picturesque so it really is excellent.
There are a few negative comments about the rooms, and while some areas are a bit dated, our room was very clean with new curtains and aluminium joinery. I’m sure Accor will continue lifting the overall standard. We had no issues, and all staff were friendly and very obliging.nnThe location is excellent for exploring Taupo. The food is basic pub‑style, and breakfast is simple but sufficient — though a wider range of fresh fruit, juices, and continental options would be a welcome improvement. The pastries were always served warm rather than chilled, which differs from other places.nThe grounds are beautifully maintained and perfect for morning walks, with Huka Falls only minutes away. And if you feel like a splurge, dinner at Huka Lodge is unforgettable.nnOverall, I enjoyed my stay at Wairakei Resort and would happily return and recommend it.
This is a lovely Resort, historical in style. The std room is of a good level, clean and nicely appointed. The premises are pretty and enjoyable. They have two heated pools and a couple of jacuzzi’s. There is a gym and squash court.nThe resturant is a on the pricier side, but great service.nI would definitely visit again.
Hubby and I stayed in a suite late January. The front staff were lovely even if it took a while to check everyone in. Whilst the room was probably the cleanest room I have ever stayed in, the carpet is literally threadbare and rucked up, the decor is practically non existent, think bland 80s. Definitely not 4 star standard and definitely way over priced! This is one sad resort that desperately needs a makeover.
Great Amenities and Warm Pools: Loved the variety of things to do here. Between the gym, squash, and tennis/basketball courts, there's no shortage of activity. The playground especially the trampoline is perfect for families. Having two heated pools is a massive bonus—plenty of space for everyone to swim comfortably. A solid choice for a Taupo stay. 8 minutes from Taupo city centre.
