High end spa worth going too!! We pre booked online advance & was blown away by the beauty, relaxation & high end feel at Wai Ariki! They start you with a Māori introduction followed by access to the super clean locker rooms to get ready in. The spa area has multiple pools varying levels of hot, a VERY cold plunge, a pool with jets and my personal fave- one with natural & local herbs.nnIt was very empty on a weekday morning & we had the place to ourselves. Very relaxing. It was nice to try the different pools during our hour booking.nnThe entire place was relaxing & welcoming. It was such a soothing soak after a long day of exploring around prior.nnI feel like the natural waters do wonders for sore muscles & just leave you feeling SO refreshed after! Our skin was so smooth & soft after!
For my birthday this year, I decided to treat myself to a 2-hour Restorative Journey at Wai Ariki Spa in Rotorua.nI loved it!nnI booked my timeslot online a couple of days in advance. On the day, I drove down to Rotorua & was pleased to see a lot of free parking available at Wai Ariki Spa. Once there, I was shown around the facilities along with 3 other people that had the same timeslot as me they limit spaces / times to avoid overcrowding, which was excellent & added to the experience.nnThey describe it as a 7-step therapeutic journey, which is as follows taken from their website!:nn• Te Hihiri, Blessing Stonen• Wairere, Waterfall Showersn• Te Tukinga, Tongariro Fire & Ice Cavesn• Te Taiwhanga Matua, Lake View Poolsn• Te Pae Paru, Geothermal Mud Loungen• Kohu Wai Ariki, Steam Roomn• Te Ngao, Blessing StonennWe started as a group with the first blessing stone, then we were shown the rest of the facilities, & then left to get changed into our swimwear & start the journey. We were provided with a locker, a towel, and a robe. I took my own flip-flops to wear around the venue in between the various sections. The changing rooms had 3 private lockable changing rooms as well as the open-plan changing rooms, and also had lockable private showers as well as open ones. All the showers in the changing room had shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner provided.nnThe journey continued with the waterfall showers which were interesting - a row of 4 showers that did about 30 seconds each in succession, so you move through them to get the different experience of each one.nnThen into the Fire & Ice section, which had 3 saunas with different offers, a frigidarium I avoided that!, & a walkthrough pool to cool you down between each sauna room.nnThen outside to the undercover pools. A variety of pools with geothermal elements - each pool had a sign & description, I didn't capture them all as I was too busy floating around enjoying myself...nAfter those, it was into the mud room to cover myself in mud provided by the spa. Then lying on warm recliners while the mud dried, & then off to the steam room. It was incredibly steamy & hot, I didn't last long in there!nnThen a shower to remove the mud, & a final set of blessing stones to end the journey.nnWhile the experience was for 2 hours, & they gave suggestions for how long each section should be, we were free to move around & no-one was following us around with a stopwatch. This definitely helped with the relaxation element! There were clocks on the walls in every section for information which I found very helpful, as otherwise it would probably have got dark & I'd still be there lying around in the water.nnAs this was my birthday treat to myself, I also booked a luxury platter for lunch after my spa session. Having made the most of the excellent changing facilities I have been in some not-so-good ones before - these were very pleasing!, I then went to the café & they prepared my platter.nnIt was so nice to sit quietly by myself, reflecting on my morning, reflecting on my life, & having a delicious meal. I highly recommend doing this Restorative Journey experience, and treating yourself to something from the café afterwards!nnThank you to the whole team there who made the experience so relaxing & enjoyable.
We chose the Restorative Journey which was amazing and extremely relaxing and a lot of fun especially the Fire and Ice experience and the Mud Room experience. The staff were attentive and passionate about the story behind the Restorative Journey. The facilities definitely 5 stars. Thank you for an amazing 2 hours Wai Ariki Springs & Spa. We absolutely loved our time there *****
The Restorative Journey was lovely, staff were great - but it’s not worth the $175 they charge for it.nnI understand it’s a tourist location and so they charge accordingly - but the pricing is insane.nnVisited with a friend who was charged the locals price of $95, which is far more on par with what the experience is actually worth.
So hard to say my favorite part of this geothermal experience right on the waterfront at Rotorua! Salt sauna? Herbal pool? Hay or geothermal sauna? Ice shavings or ice water bucket or mud and steam room. The main pools and individual waterfalls? Seriously too hard to pick. Thanks team . Great intro and experience all round!
