Story

The Idea
Eating an excessive amount of gelato in Italy and beyond was a for sure highlight of a massive 2016 Euro trip. We ate gelato anywhere, anyhow, anytime.
Gelato is hard not to fall in love with - especially on a hot summers day when you’re at the beach, which is precisely where we were (eating more gelato) when we decided to MAKE our own back home in New Zealand. What better way to share the joys of gelato with others?

The Lessons
Before flying home to Aotearoa, we had a good friend in Italy to visit. Simo grew up in a small town known as Riva Ligure located in the region Liguria, Northern Italy. It was Simo who arranged for us to meet and have lessons with Vittorio. Vittorio, owner/operator of the most popular gelateria in all of Riva Ligure has been handcrafting the finest gelato for over 18 years. With Simo as our translator, it was here we learnt what it took to make good quality artisan gelato. Taken back by his kindness and generosity as well as his crazy good gelato, we decided to name our new business in his honour.
Vittorio’s Artisan Gelato was born.

The Caravan
Making gelato is one thing - but sharing it with others in the right place is another. Lovers of all things ocean and nature (and now gelato), we wanted to be able to spend our days as close to the outdoors as possible as well as ensure beach goers and holiday makers in the Bay of Plenty and beyond were able to get their hands on our delicious frozen treats. This is where the funky mobile caravan comes in.

The Gelato
While we strive to bring you quality artisan gelato, with an expanding range of classic and kiwi flavours to choose from - the rest is really up to you guys. So please, come try some of our gelato at a location near you this summer. We hope you come to love gelato as much as we do! If it helps - it has less fat in it than ice-cream ;)
