Nice ambience and a place with plenty of drinks to offer. Food wise, there is variety. Don't expect to find much Japanese kind of dishes but the Thai curry ones might be the closest one find to Asian taste. The service is fantastic, pleasant and friendly - explaining how the dishes are served to newbies like us. The cauliflower tempura is a must try. You can expect to foot out $50 per person if you intend to have a decent meal with a drink.

Definitely recommend you try Umami. Heard about this place through a friend so thought we would give it a try and were not disappointed. The food tastes fantastic - great portion sizes for sharing our just for yourself. The wait staff are polite and know what they are serving so able to answer questions and advise. The decor is awesome, and the chairs are super comfortable. We'll worth roast visits.nUpdate 25/1/23: continues to maintain excellent food and service. Butter chicken dumplings delicious and the go to dessert is the chocolate wontons - definitly a recommendation.nUpdate 25/523: no reason to change stars. Since our first meal here, the did has been consistently good. The menu has changed a bit, maintaining the regional inspiration. The deep cried eggplant, light and deficits with a bit of zing, yellow curry with enough to be shared between two. The other aspect that has been maintained is the staging and decor - staff are great and I love the design, lighting and wooden tiles. And the chairs are still really comfortable.

Love this place & the tempura cauliflower!! A little disappointed that the scallops were no longer on the menu, but the kingfish & prawn were delish! Great place to go as a couple or with a group as the dishes are made to share - my kind of way to dine!

The service was great and the food was delicious. The food is so well put together and well presented. The flavour combinations are so good my favourite was the Beef tataki and pork bao buns. We left very full and the price for the amount of food we had was pleasantly surprising. Well worth the visit and another gem on our doorstop.

Absolutely amazing food. Flavours are insane and so good getting a bit of everything and sharing it. The beef bulgogi was delicious, the beef wontons, bok choy and chicken kaarage were yummy starters! Good size portions you won't leave hungry! Definitely one of my favourite restaurants I have been to in Tauranga.
